This one is always a treat and one I tell people to watch if they are interested in Godzilla movies. It's modern, top notch special effects, it's serious in tone, a great music score, multiple monsters, and one of my favorite Godzilla designs. I love the Evil Dead eyes they gave him. This is my first Godzilla ever, and I never would have thought that I'd find it that enjoyable. The dialogues are only a means to an end and the characters are okay, but I really like the pseudo-mythological approach and hey, well done destruction (take note, Emmerich) always works. Looking forward to more!
Why does this movie work? Because it gets rid of all the bull-shit you don't want to see in a disaster-movie like forced humor or unneccessary sidecharacters…

If I would watch this as a normal action movie, it would be okay. Nice characters, good monster action, weird special effects. It knows how to entertain but is nothing special.
