A collection of scenes with people crying is apparently all it takes to make a drama. At least nobody went to church...

"Now THIS is what Tyler Perry needs to do more on his serious movies, not the two Why I Did Get Married crap. A movie where gets to show his serious side, not get all too melodramatic on the story and get great actors like Thandie Newton, Phylicia Rashad, Brian White (who I think is good) & Gabrielle Union involved. Perry gives a nice, solid performance (his best serious role by far). Gabrielle Union in her best role in a while (she's an underrated actress, when she's on, she's on), Brian White gives the performance of his career as the jealous brother, exhilarating stuff from White. Phylicia Rashad is good once again. Jamie Kennedy's character is pointless (I love Kennedy, very…

This departure from the norm kind of puts Tyler Perry front and center to his own detriment. The problem isn't the story so much (though it really pushes the boundaries of self-aggrandizing) or his acting (though he plays Wesley Deeds as three completely separate character personalities taking turns). The problem is the script, which fails on nearly every level, every line. Logic just abandons Tyler Perry from the first moment to the last. On top of that, nothing really great happens on the crazy front, aside from Jamie Kennedy's weird turn as a gay fashion designer and a brief Tyler Perry sex scene. And while not as fun, I believe the story with Deeds' black sheep brother approaches genuine drama the likes of which T.P. only ever achieves accidentally. It's almost Shakespearean.

Too melodramatic, poor writing and wooden acting from Tyler Perry himself. I couldn't stay interested and it's way too long.

It was okay. It was definitely a departure wasn't really a comedy but had some funny bits.

Yes, it is predictable. Yes, it has cheesy music. Yes, it is the typical T Perry romantic, feel good script. But it also has high production value and good acting, T Newton and G Union in particular.

Pretty bland from start to finish, but that's better than being an assault on the senses like some of Perry's other movies.
