Green Street Hooligans
2006 ‘Hooligans’ Directed by Lexi Alexander
Synopsis
Just think of someone you hate.
After being wrongfully expelled from Harvard University, American Matt Buckner flees to his sister's home in England. Once there, he is befriended by her charming and dangerous brother-in-law, Pete Dunham, and introduced to the underworld of British football hooliganism. Matt learns to stand his ground through a friendship that develops against the backdrop of this secret and often violent world. 'Green Street Hooligans' is a story of loyalty, trust and the sometimes brutal consequences of living close to the edge.

'Look at me, I'm a soft hearted, kinda insecure American kid who has trouble standing up for himself. Oh, and I've got some trouble at school so I went to England and met up with these wonderful boys who intimidate, beat and almost kill other people. All over this weird game in which grown men run after a ball. These lovely chaps have embraced me and taught me the ways of senseless violence so now I can stick up for myself! Thank you for teaching me this wonderful lesson!'

Great message in this one..... -
100% distasteful audibly, visually and morally. 3 thumbs-up categories used to great effect in Lexi Alexander's Punisher: War Zone, but as a movie with a message and an arc of a protagonist, for shame. Dumb as a rock.

It's not as bad as I thought it'd be, but it does contain some of the least convincing mockney accents I've ever heard.

CAPSULE REVIEW: In spite of the many displays of maximum oi!-ness this utterly feather-weight movie fails to convince us that pretty-boy and frail looking Elijah Wood would ever be invited to the fold of a group of violent psychopaths with a marginal interest in soccer. Lacking the same moral center as most recent British crime dramas romanticizing gang violence this movie is also absent of the (at the end of the day completely unnecessary and pointless) feel of authenticity like say, the trashy contemporary "Rise Of The Footsoldier" (Julan Gilbey, 2007) has in spades. Thank God, that we don't have to listen another Hollywood actor trying to don a British dialect though, any British dialect for that matter. Wood's character is and remains American throughout.
A side note. This movie is directed by Lexi Alexander who is responsible for the utterly ridiculous, ultra-violent, most fun and funniest comic adaptations from the aught's, "Punisher: War Zone".

It really shouldn't be as good as it is because the message is really poor. 'Oh, violence is the answer but it's bad but let's fight anyways.'
Great work by Hunnam here and also Marc Warren.
What a moving end though. -

I will defend this film with every fibre of my being. It's probably terrible, but I couldn't give a shit.
