Gregory's Girl
1982 Directed by Bill Forsyth
Synopsis
... there's a little bit of him in all of us.
In his Scottish New Town home, gangling Gregory and his schoolfriends are starting to find out about girls. He fancies Dorothy, not least because she has got into the football team - and is a better player than him. He finally asks her out, but it is obviously the females in control of matters here, and that very much includes Gregory's younger sister.

Absolutely adore this movie. I was introduced to this film when I was young as my mum had it on video. Both my parents are Scottish and I feel a connection with this film because of that. It is also filmed/set in Cumbernauld which is where my mum grew up all her life which is probably why she loves this film so much. I adore Scotland as well and love the accent, and this film definitely makes me proud of my Scottish heritage.
This is the perfect coming of age scenario and one that really puts a smile on your face. The character of Gregory (John Gordon Sinclair) is perfectly awkward and lanky, which I love. I love all of…

I love this film so much,it reminds me what it was like being a teenager. I remember watching it for the first time as a kid and falling in love with Clare Grogan. It's incredibly funny and sweet with some real laugh out moments. John Gordon Sinclair so charming as Gregory,a lanky kid who falls in love with the new girl who's now the star player in the football team. I love Gregory's mates who are desperate to get close to girls but have no idea how to. They say the most awkward things to try and impress and fall flat on there faces every time. Poor Gregory's so hopeless he even takes advice from his younger wiser sister who guides him on the right track. This is such a heart warming, funny wonderful movie that could melt the hardest of hearts. One of my all time favourite movies.

Maybe it's because I'm now a forty something or that this film has dated really badly, but this didn't have the same heart-warming effect it had on me years ago.
Bill Forsyth made some great little films back in in early eighties and I've always had a nostalgic love for his films. Never having huge commercial appeal these films were made for his own audience mainly in the UK,but especially Scotland. This coming of age drama of a geeky schoolboy and his first crush is handled with kid gloves by a skilled exponent of storytelling. John Gordon Sinclair is the eponymous Gregory a shy and awkward teenager who falls in love with a girl that takes his place in the school…

I'm sure there are more charming and sweeter films out there, but for the life of me I can't think of them! I'm a huge fan of Gregory's Girl. It's got wonderful characters, great warmth and a winning sense of humour. This film is my go-to reminder of what it was like to be a teenager. Just perfect!

I only managed to catch this film because of Edgar Wright calling this the best romantic film in a list last week. I'm glad I did because it's very charming. No it's not my #1, but I can see why it's so beloved in the UK. Some of the scenes near the end were just wonderful, especially the dancing in the grass. Would like to rewatch it one day because it didn't go where I expected and want to see what threads I missed.

Netflix. I liked this film so bad. One of the funniest films I've ever seen.

Nearly every positive review of this has the word "charm" or "charming" in it. We Americans need to learn some new adjectives for British things.

Charming high school comedy, despite the cheesy music
