Grumpier Old Men
1995 Directed by Howard Deutch
Synopsis
Still Yelling. Still Fighting. Still Ready For Love.
A family wedding reignites the ancient feud between next-door neighbors and fishing buddies John and Max. Meanwhile, a sultry Italian divorcée opens a restaurant at the local bait shop, alarming the locals who worry she'll scare the fish away. But she's less interested in seafood than she is in cooking up a hot time with Max.

"Holy moly, how big is he this year?"
"He's the size of a goddamn Buick and I woulda had him caught if you hadn't shown up!"
"You couldn't catch crabs from a 10-dollar hooker."
"How is your sister, by the way?"To check "I've seen this film before" is putting it mildly. I've probably watched this movie a good 50 times since I was a kid.
John Gustafson (Jack Lemmon) and Max Goldman (Walter Matthau) have been neighbours for decades, and constantly bickering & fighting with one another over anything and everything. Grumpy Old Men had the two fighting over their new neighbour across the street (Ann-Margaret) - well now Grumpier Old Men has them fighting over the impending marriage of…

Grumpy Old Men is better (that had more tragedy), but this one still has its moments, even if many of them are very predictable. Walter Matthau, Jack Lemmon and Burgess Meredith are very funny apparently playing themselves, this is a fun film of life, love and feuds for those aged over 60. And over 70. And 80.

Pretty much a repeat of the first film only with less practical jokes between Dickhead and Putz. It has the same positives (Lemmon and Matthau's feuding, the "traps", the acting, how just plain nice the whole thing is) and also the same negatives (kind of predictable, some jokes are too "easy", etc)
What's slightly different here though is that Burgess Meredith absolutely stole the show this time. He was funny in the first film but his innuendo in this sequel was hilarious. It's worth watching this film just to see his out-takes in the closing credits!
If you're looking to waste a few hours on some nice family friendly comedy (mild level of swearing, mind you) then you could do worse than watch these two films back to back over Christmas!

It's a Lemmon/Matthau movie not called The Odd Couple II. You know it's good. Sure, it doesn't quite live up to its predecessor but it still delivers the laughs in great quantities.

My all-time favourite guilty pleasure.
I could recite this movie word-for-word.I can probably give this comedy a lot of credit for making me interested in watching older films.
Since watching this as a kid, randomly seeing it on television, I've now gone back and watched many of the Lemmon/Matthau films. While being a huge fan of The Odd Couple, The Front Page, and The Fortune Cookie, this is the one I can always go back to - both for nostalgic reasons as well as that Lemmon-Matthau chemistry that never gets old. -
Great fun, but too similar to the first one. Almost identical plot. Liked it anyway.

I like this one better than the first.
