Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers
1988 Directed by Dwight H. Little
Synopsis
Horror has returned to Haddonfield.
The legend of that creepy masked-man, Michael Myers, comes to life once again in this fourth installment of the successful horror franchise. This time, it's Michael's niece, Jamie, who can't seem to escape her crazy uncle. With Michael on the loose, Jamie enlists the help of good old Dr. Loomis to stop the murderer. This time, though, there seems to be no end to Michael's madness.

Even for me to give this film a rating of two and a half, I have to forgive a whole lot of stuff. I hate the mask. I hate the third act. I hate the look of the film. Still though, there are some interesting moments that go against cliches of the genre. The sheriff believing Loomis immediately is cool, as is the idea of barricading themselves in the house. Still, there are so many other moments in the film that are terribly cliche, that it is hard to truly give this film much credit.

I sometimes wonder what it must have been like to go to the cinema and watch Halloween IV: The Return of Michael Myers for the first time. You’ve waited seven years to see cinema’s greatest ever serial killer back on the big screen after being cruelly denied such a privilege by Halloween III and then, exactly five minutes in, that classic theme tune starts up, more piercing than you remembered but still as daunting and ground-breaking as in 1978. That’s the signal. Michael Myers is back. The Halloween series is back on track. This is going to be good…
And good it is. Obviously it isn’t a patch on the original but Halloween IV has a charm and sense…

One of the better sequels. All down hill from here! Great ending.

After the lackluster box-office performance of Halloween 3: Season of the Witch, the Halloween series returned to Haddonfield, Illinois and the world of the now cult horror icon Michael Myers. Apparently John Carpenter had wanted the series to follow the format of Halloween 3 and tell an individual story for each film going forward. The fans however wanted to see more of everyone's favourite knife wielding fiend..
Halloween 4 takes place 10 years after the events of Halloween 2, the premise is that upon Michael discovering he has a neice (Jamie), he awakens from his slumber and sets out to once again embark on a killing spree with Jamie being his primary target. Donald Pleasance returns to play Dr Loomis,…

The way Halloween 4 repeats the following conversation but with nary a twist makes it play as awful vaudeville:
Sheriff: How could a man do this?
Loomis: He's not a man.
Sheriff: What is he?
Loomis: Evil.I'm not kidding . . . that happens four times in this one movie, with only slightly alterations in character and dialogue.
Only the (recycled John Carpenter) score really makes much of a positive impression. There is little creativity in shots, and the makeup effects are barely adequately gruesome. And, alas, the acting, such as it is. . .does not impress.
But really the whole thing is kinda sad & sick in concept. Torturing an old man, and chasing a little girl is pretty…

Michael, what happened to your face?

perfect ending

Michaels back and after his niece Jamie Lloyd. The usual slasher mayhem ensues. I think they we’re setting up Jamie to be the next Mike but threw out that idea with the next film

Holy snoozefest, every kill is BORING. The only thing this has going for it is the return of Michael Myers to the franchise and that's about it.

My second favorite of the series. I always felt Michael just lost his fucking rag in this entry, as he genuinely feels unrestrained in his killing and stalking. He's extra-pissed here. And who wouldn't be? He was shot six times, then burnt alive, then shot more, then ignored by the next sequel. I'd be pissed too.
A great sequel to a great film. And that's not something you can say often, especially in it's genre.
