Hercules
1983 Directed by Luigi Cozzi
Synopsis
The film is an odd retelling of the story of Hercules (Lou Ferrigno) battling the wizard Minos (William Berger), who uses "science" in an attempt to take over the world. Hercules must stop him and rescue his princess love in the process. Part of the adventure finds Hercules battling giant robots brought to life by stop motion animation. The musical score by Pino Donaggio.

Luigi Cozzi's 1980's sword and sorcery meets sci-fi take on Hercules is terrible, but the results are just odd enough that it's ultimately pretty special. As in "Hercules isn't bad, it's just...special."

Watch Lou Ferrigno flex his pecs, bend rubber swords and throw bears into space. A modern day masterpiece.

Ok, I wasn't expecting much from this, but I can honestly say that this blew me away.
The stunningly imaginative use of all kinds of visual effects, accompanied by a fantastic creative art crew, makes for a highly enjoyable fantasy adventure as the musclebound hero of ancient times sets out on a quest to discover the mysteries and reasons behind his superhuman strength and wisdom.
Often borrowing from genre films such as Jason & the Argonauts, Clash of the Titans, and the classic Sinbad movies, it still holds it's own with an engaging storyline and a likeable hero.
On the downside, I thought a few of the action scenes could've been handled better, but the constant barrage of fantasy imagery… -
I remember meeting B-Movie Queen Sybil Danning at a motorcycle show when I was about 8. I introduced her to my Cabbage Patch Kid and she acted genuinely glad to meet her. Since then, I've always had a fondness for her movies....even ones as bad as this.

Golan-Globus present Lou Ferrigno in a mythological effects heavy extravaganza of Hercules.
The films desire for the extravagance is untouched by any concerns of practicality or sense. It is certainly a visual film where some prior knowledge of the characters may help in deciphering the numerous relationships.
Unfortunately there are issues with the pacing throughout the entire films which takes away from the fun. This is most apparent when during the finale, Lou takes all the time in the world to save a woman being lowered into a volcano.
The Reverence: Costumes that make the males look like they are wearing nappies, a disinterested baby killing two snakes, a bear in space, a log in space, a chariot in space,…

One of the best WORST movies ever made!!!

To be young and have no screening filter as to what to watch. All the money I wasted! Not to mention time I will never get back!

I finally caught up with Cozzi's original Hercules after watching the sequel, The Adventures of Hercules, on my birthday, thinking it was the first film.
Needless to say, this does not clear up any of the issues of the sequel but it does have robots, so that's pretty cool.
