What the fuck did I just watch? No, seriously, someone please explain this movie to me. Chloë Grace Moretz plays 13-year-old Luli, who runs away from her drunkard family and immediately hops into the pick-up truck of a crippled cowboy drifter played by War Horse's exceedingly bland Eddie Redmayne. She calls him a gimp, he doesn't like that, she hops out, sits on the side of the road, and then is almost pissed on by Blake Lively. By the way, Lively was peeing while standing up, which then prompts a whole conversation about how that's possible. I was hoping for some sort of Crying Game twist, but alas.
From there, the film consists of drug-taking, robbery, violence, rape, and general…

I probably would have given this film zero stars if it wasn't for Moretz. She's only 15 yet she out-acts the rest of the cast. She will be a force on the silver screen in the years to come as long as she doesn't pull a Lindsey Lohan. Lively and Redmayne are decent but relatively unmemorable and the plot isn't even worth mentioning, really.

The movie looked a little exciting from the trailer but it was far from that.
It was a slow, tedious and pointless road trip in the vain of a modern Thelma & Louise for rednecks.
The 1 star would be for Chloë Grace Moretz who played he role of a 13 year old Lolita very well. She will definitely in the business for some time and will get more roles a la Hugo. Her home life an alcoholic mess, as she hits the road with nothing but her Lolita sunglasses and the gun she recently received for her 13th birthday. Hitching her way to Las Vegas, she falls under the influence of two very poor role models, a cowboy and a con woman.
Anyway, it all ends with me thinking what was the point in all that.

Independent Coming of age, Chloe Grace Moretz, Blake Lively
Chloe (kick-ass) is a 13 year old girl who lives in Nebraska but life sucks, so she runs away and heads to Vegas. Good movie but not a happy story because Chloe has to go through some hardships as she tries to grow up too quick. Chloe is the main star, is almost always on screen and shouldn't disappoint any of her fans. Alec Baldwin is also cast but has minimal screen time. If you like coming of age movies give it a shot, it's just not as bubble gum, happy go lucky as most are.

Is it too late for someone to re-write this screenplay?

There is good reason this has a mere 5% on Rotten Tomatoes
The film is so pointless, what is the point of all this. If the film had a message it gets so bogged down in trying to be dark and shocking that it was lost a long time ago.
The only saving grace is Chloe Grace Moretz, she out acts everyone in this movie by a country miles. Her talents are wasted on this pointless and brain dead movie.

This movie started out as kind of a quirky, comedy/drama and then all of sudden became something quite a bit darker. Definitely not what I was expecting but the whole thing kept my interest and Chloe did a great job portraying a young girl thrown into a fucked up world. Alec Baldwin makes an appearance, although I'm not entirely sure how his character even fit in. I guessed this was based off a book, because it had a great story but you know the real meat of it just wasn't there.
This IS a book and one I definitely want to read now. I feel like reading the book will fill in all the cracks where the movie was lacking.

While I do enjoy a good performance by Chloe Grace Moretz (which is sadly still sparingly used), the film comes off as slightly directionless or more so too broad.
The spirit of a young runaway, only to run into the corruption of the world is definitely clear. However, what should be Moretz's story ends up as the backdrop of the film, focusing more so on the characters we are "supposed to" care about.

Just a load of nothing. It feels like a boy's badly executed fantasy. You've got pretty gals in less than respectable situations and a weird yet bland crippled stalker. I felt a bit deceived. Reading the synopsis, I expected the gun and Blake Lively to play more of a role. They just show up in the beginning and pop out until the very end. Instead we have Chloe Mortez in a weird back-and-forth thing with the creeper. That is the plot basically. It is boring and filled with nothing.

My staunch hatred for the "road movie" continues unabated.

Elements of broken innocence, lofty melodrama, and an on-the-run crime thriller are riddled with clichés in this unknowing, pointless and stupidly baffling movie. Despite some brief moments of genuine drama in its final stages, there is still no reason to see this aimlessly wandering crud.

Hick is a fairly empty film for the most part; it has no real sense of direction or purpose, but it isn't terrible, and that's because of Chloe Grace Moretz - one of, if not the finest young actresses working in Hollywood today.
She out-acts everyone in this film and she isn't even old enough to watch the damn thing. Brilliant on her part, fucking embarrassing for everyone else.
