Can't wait to get to the part where Hitler dies in a burning French theater
The portrayal of Hitler is stereotypical and oversimplified. The audience is led to believe that he was born inherently cruel, arrogant, repugnant, and that he beat up puppies. This inherent evilness is supposed to explain his life and politics. Hitler's popularity is attributed to the mass hysteria that his speeches generate. He doesn't even have to convey any meaningful content; it's enough for him to growl something hateful about Jews, and large masses of people will follow him.
Essentially, it's a quasi-biography that focuses on Hitler's negative personality traits in an exaggerated and fictionalized manner, and it all boils down to a trite story about a deranged Fuhrer and evil Nazi monsters. It doesn't have any educational value. Most people…

The original choice for Hitler was Ewan McGregor, and I'm not sure if it was a better decision to get the guy who played John Lennon in Yesterday instead
Phew. Pretty heavy stuff, that Hitler guy. Don't know if you've heard of him, but yeah, he was bad. Or evil actually. But not high school evil. Really evil.
Joking aside now. I love Robert Carlyle because of the phenomenal series Once Upon a Time, and no, I will never get tired of mentioning it in my reviews. I actually watched this movie when I was thirteen or something, but only remembered a few scenes and most importantly I didn't know who Robert Carlyle was back then, so now with my new appreciation for him I wanted to watch it again. And of course he delivered a phenomenal performance. He also has a very believable look, a great casting choice.…
I am fascinated by Nazi Germany and it says a lot that I found this film utterly boring. Robert Carlyle is over the top as Hitler; he plays him as such a creepy psycho, in both his personal and political lives, that it's a wonder the character attracted any adherents at all (in reality I suspect Hitler was a bit more charming than he is here). Norman Corbeil's score is intrusive and not at all subtle, from the moment we see Hitler as a child we are told he's basically evil incarnate. The film flits across many different POVs, but mainly focuses on three men: Hitler, his collaborator Ernst Hanfstaengle, and journalist Fritz Gerlich (the POVs of their romantic partners/wives…
