It occurred to me, on this go around, that Harry & Marv's problems would have been easily solved had they just run Kevin over when they were pulling out of the driveway in their van. Just dispose of the body, and then they've got a few worry free days of robbing ahead of them.

Joe Pesci delivers the biggest Christmas miracle of the '90s by not swearing for the entire film. Full review here

You all know the story - kid gets left home alone by his family when leaving for their Christmas vacation in France. In the time it takes them to realize, and get back to him, he takes it upon himself to protect the family's home from two men burglarizing the neighborhood.
I never give Home Alone the credit that it deserves. What is wrong with me? So I'm going on the record - it is FANTASTIC. Macaulay Culkin is the most adorable thing ever, Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern are fun as the world's most incompetent (and unlucky) burglars, and all the craziness makes me happy to have a relatively small family.
It puts me in the best mood, and I'm sure I'll watch it again before this Christmas is over.

I've watched this movie a ridiculous amount of times, but even now it's not Christmas without watching this John Hughes classic! Pretty sure i can quote this entire film from beginning to end.
Everything about this movie is great fun! Plus, Macauley Culkin is adorable! -
Yes, the plot for this movie is bullshit. It's basically the live-action version of a 6 year old's cartoon, but that's kinda the point. It's just a lot of goofy fun. Ginormous guilty pleasure for me. I see it every Christmas, along with Home Alone II. Macaulay Culkin, in one of the all-time great child performances, rocks the show, and he is greatly supported by the cast ensemble, who all have memorable roles, and the soundtrack compiled by John Williams is nothing short than amazing. A true classic!

Other than Die Hard this is my favorite Christmas movie.

This is a classic festive comedy film written by John Hughes and directed by Chris Columbus.
The film stars Macaulay Culkin as Kevin McCallister, an eight-year-old boy, who is mistakenly left behind when his family flies to Paris for their Christmas vacation. While initially relishing time by himself, he is later greeted by two would-be burglars; Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern) who want to ransack the house, not coutning on young Kevin being there. After spending a few days basking in self-pity, Kevin acts the grown-up and takes responsibility for himself and the house as his family race back across time-zones to reach him before Christmas morning.
After some discoveries about himself and his neighbours which have remained…

Opinions formed during an admittedly sleepy viewing. I was struck by its unusual character, including occasional direct camera addresses and imaginative, cartoony fun (and violence). This does a good job of giving the film a child's perspective, a kookiness that's essential to its charm. When the climactic face-off arrives, it's grippingly, even shockingly violent, a manifestation of elderly fears concerning disaffected youth corrupted by violent games and movies. That his reaction is so gleeful to violence so hard-hitting (nail in the foot, burning hot doorknob, paint cans to the head) is actually quite perverse. It exhibits a darkness that fits strangely with the family fare of the rest of the movie, but in a good way. Culkin is good but sometimes given too many cutesy lines. The parent storyline is a little flat, and the movie is a bit short overall.

Pretty sure I watched this a billion times as a kid.

Macaulay Culkin accidentally gets left behind by his family over the Christmas holidays and defends his house against two of the worst burglars in history. No matter how annoying the little rascal is, nothing can ruin this classic family Christmas adventure.

almost perfect

Every time I think about Home Alone I always think "how is it they actually get on a plane without him?" but every time I watch it I become so caught up in the family's frustration that I hardly even notice myself. I don't think people realise how big a barrier that is to cross, and because it does cross it, it means that everything that follows is good-spirited family fun. It says far more about christmas than it does from just being set around it. Home is where the heart is, but the heart of a home is the family.

Every year with christmas, this movie is playing on TV.
And I still love it!
