Overcooked nonsense, where everyone acts SERIOUS as though they're in an important movie, rather than a mess of idiocy. You'll be hard pressed to keep a straight face.
Grumpy Dennis Quaid & Joseph Gordon Levitt's evil twin take way longer than the audience to piece together what's going on, as moody "teens" act out against those who've wronged 'em. Kids, eh? Bring back National Service.

Oh my, did that suck.
Dennis Quaid is one of the most underused, underrated actors around, so when I see he has a new project coming, I'm always optimistic. This one obviously wanted to be Se7en, but instead it was just another sad knock-off, and one of the worst at that. Quaid does fine, but the story and script are just duds from page one.
But the absolute worst aspect of the film is Ziyi Zhang. It's safe to say she has a LOCK on worst actress of 2009 for her performance here. Yes, her English is still spotty, but even if you forgive that, her acting is still atrocious.
Dennis Quaid deserves better than this. Come to think of it, looking back on his career, he's ony had a handful of really good films and a lot of mediocrity and duds.

Horsemen tries hard to be SE7EN or Silence of the Lambs. I mean it tries hard. The oppressive atmosphere in no way is helped by a budget that makes it feel all the more claustrophobic. The mood is heavy enough without the additional confinement. The violence is gruesome, including hanging living victims on hooks and making them drown in their own blood, events designed to scar the psyche. It even has parallels with SE7EN in that it draws on Biblical themes. The lighting is dim and foreboding. There are plenty of slow motion shots to ramp up the drama while providing some interesting visuals. However, for someone like me who didn't particularly like SE7EN or Silence of the Lambs this…

Dark, moody, engaging... predictable. Good film but falls short of its inspiration.

Even for bad movies I usually feel a little more excited writing a review. This is just kinda boring, by the numbers movie. Murders are happening related to biblical text, sure thats never been done before. Erm. Well then its gets lamer as it becomes a social message about abuse and acceptance, but just isnt done convincinggly. I love Zhang Ziyi and she was the best thing about this, Quaid was a bit over the top most of the film but was great in the final scenes.
How could you make the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse this boring.
So lets see, a star for zhang Ziyis acting, half a star for her beauty and half a star for D quaids final scenes. -
Don't come and see.
