I was expecting this to be a horror/thriller/hicksploitation movie, not a straight up action film.
Watching and adsorbing this I can see why this has a small cult following, the pieces are all there, it just doesn't work for me beyond a very simple level. City boys out of their element act like assholes in bumfuck Arkansas. City Boys think they are hot shit with their new ford bronco and they run afowl of some cannibal mountain men that also like to rape anything with a wet hole. John Travolta's dipshit brother acts like a mook, Clu Ghallager acts like Clu Ghallager, and Billy Drago is just weird as always.
There were a 100 chances for this movie to ratchet up the tension and drama and it just didn't go there, so 2 stars. Nice effects though.

Low budget thriller cut from the same cloth as DELIVERANCE and SOUTHERN COMFORT. Very effective.

Sleazy city boys versus rednecks survival movie for those that thought Deliverance was a bit tame.
