I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry
2007 Directed by Dennis Dugan
Synopsis
They're as straight as can be, but don't tell anyone.
Firefighters Chuck Ford and Larry Valentine are guy's guys, loyal to the core -- which is why when widower Larry asks Chuck to pose as his gay lover so that he can get domestic partner benefits for his kids, his buddy agrees. Things get dicey, however, when a bureaucrat comes calling, and the boys are forced to present a picture of domestic bliss.

Sexist, racist, misogynist, homophobic, fatist, child-hating filth.
Which would be great if it was funny. This is really not fucking funny.
Just when you think Adam Sandler can't get any lower, he hits a new crag jutting out the side of the bottomless chasm that is now his career. -
Adam Sandler is joined in the annoying arsehole stakes by fat prick Kevin James who has a career built on rubbish. From Paul Blart to The Zookeeper this is a talentless waste of space. Here he gives us more of the same in a role that I'm sure he thought would elevate him to superstar status. Playing the part of a widowed fire-fighter, he fakes a gay marriage to a friend in order to provide security for his young kids.
Sandler and James then play out a gay relationship for everyone to see that has a few laughs but mainly embarrassingly kitsch stereotypical behaviour of straight men playing poofs. Jessica Biel steals the show with a flash of her underwear… -
Quite frankly the funniest comedy I've seen in a while; it is both funny, and real. The reactions concentrate on the actual scene, and how bullying affects the LGBT society. The postman's sketch is hilarious! Overall, very humourous.

This was either going to be insulting or interesting. It toed the line all the time and never really made a clear cut to either side.

There's not a lot to like here. A couple of jokes made me smile, but christ, Sandler becomes mores and more unpleasant with every film he makes. And I find the concept of a woman like Biel being interested in him probably the most laughable thing about this film. Most of all, I would love to ask a gay man about this film. At times it seemed empathetic, respectful, and supportive of gay rights. But it also seemed equally insulting, dismissive, and prone to stereotyping. Who am I to judge?

A gobsmackingly repulsive piece of work, doing its level best to undo any artistic ambitions ever put forward by any other example of the cinematic medium. It's stupid beyond words and so homophobic you worry it might have been Sandler & James responsible for the brutal murder of two gay men in New York earlier this year, solely on the basis of their sexuality.
Amazingly, the film also has it in for women. The seems to be no end to the Sandler nasty streak. To say Adam Sandler's character is misogynist is an understatement: It's an all-out assault on the female gender so aggressive it'd be worth scanning the thing to see it's developed an malignant brain tumour, preventing its amygdala…

The politically incorrect jokes are funny. The rest not so much.

There definitely some memorable moments/quotes in the film, but it's actually pretty disappointing.

People sometimes call this Sandler's last good movie. I thought it went too hard on the gay and straight jokes. Some of the things that Sandler does to pass as gay is outside the realm of believability. On the positive side, the supporting players are really great.

Part of the Feb challenge "The Romance of It All"
Not great but far from Sandlers worst. Kevin James is an actor I like and he was good in this but too many if the jokes felt flat.
I liked how it tried to tackle homophobia and wasn't afraid to go there, but the main story was a little far fetched.
Bonus half a star for Jessica Biel in her underwear though!
