Every hair on my body is still standing on end, I think there should be a health warning on this fucker.
I needed to go to the toilet and had to make an excuse to my wife if she could check the kids while I went so I didn't have to go upstairs on my own...I feel so ashamed. -
I have very few horror films in my now extremely large dvd and blu ray collection. It's quite simple,I'm a bit of a woose.
My beautiful wife on the other hand is a big fan and being a generous and dutiful husband I occasionally have to partake of the odd scary movie. I don't do too well with these sort of films. From the best (The Exorcist) to the not so great they tend to really shit me up.
Picture the scene. Sunday evening and it's movie time. Out comes the wife with "Insidious" in her hand ,"shall we watch this?" Instead of just saying "are we fuck", I sit watching this knowing I'm going to shit myself on a… -
Installment in my Actor Arc Challenge
Holy shit. I guess I'm not as "hardcore" as I thought I was. Before this recent string of horror films including Mama, Dark Skies, and now this, I thought that these so-called scary films were not scary and that they wouldn't freak me out unless they were feasible, like The Strangers (scariest movie I've ever seen). But now, I'm starting to rethink my once-cast-iron-testicles. Throughout these last three horror films (the aforementioned trio) I have found myself sweating profusely with my blanket pulled up to just below my eyes at times. Sure, it probably doesn't help that I'm watching these alone, in the dark, and at 10pm or later at night. Still though.....

So, did horror movies stop being scary, or am I just super brave now?

So I liked this more than I thought I would, though I'm watching the behind the scenes feature called Horror 101 right now, and that is leaving a bad taste in my mouth. Director James Wan and some white dude are talking about their approach to this horror film and the white dude said they went out of their way to avoid jump scares. That is a total load of crock, as this movie is full of jump scares. I think that almost every major scare in this is a jump scare, which isn't just me being a wuss, it's a true fact. Even the soundtrack is littered with musical jump scares.
Anyway, Insidious is basically a remake of Poltergeist…

A tale of two movies. First half: pretty great slow burn paranormal activity/poltergeist (the natural phenomenon, not the films) kind of movie. Second half: absurd monster kind of movie with silly psychics and Nightcrawler from the X-Men.
I wish the first half of this film could have been sustained for the duration, giving us a House of the Devil kind of movie, but unfortunately it completely falls apart once the psychic and her team show up and takes one of the stupidest and most obvious twists ever. It was frustrating and annoying watching that latter half just wondering what could have been. A real shame.

This is one of the best paranormal movies I have seen in a long time. I will not talk spoilers... I'll just say this: Looking forward to seeing Insidious: Chapter 2 this summer, Enjoy!

I had so many problems with this. The plot that takes so many hints at being "Poltergeist", the lack of fright to really call this a horror movie, but mostly the "Poltergeist" thing.

Insidious is original, but its originality comes from the way actors embrace their roles and not the plot that is definitely something we've seen before.
