The June Challenge #37
Insomnia sees Christopher Nolan employ his now-iconic storytelling method; take a central concept, guilt in this case, and explore it by integrating it into the plot and characters. However, Insomnia never seems able to go to as interesting places with its central conceit as Nolan's better films do, perhaps because he has to work in a preexisting narrative (while his Batman films were adapting existing iconography he still had enough freedom to create strong films the first two times). As a standalone thriller it's decent, but as a followup to something as engrossing as Memento it falls notably short. -
Quizás el filme "menos bueno" de Christopher Nolan junto a Following, y aún así, más que digno. Al Pacino y Robin Williams realizan de sus mejores interpretaciones en los últimos 10 años. Historia intrigante y bien ejecutada.

A fairly straight-forward plot and dialogue dripping with cop clichès, but still a gripping and compelling crime thriller. Excellent performances from the whole cast.
My wife slept through most of it, which I find to be somewhat ironic.

Not the best script for Nolan's capabilities, couple of twists and a solid performance from Al Pacino.
I really can't describe why I don't buy Williams' performance as some sort of villan but in the end, the film delivers.Having watched the Dark Knight trilogy before this film I still criticize Nolan for his fighting scenes, they always lack something to make them believable.

@Camdun_Roar: That Nolan was able to keep two big personalities like Pacino and Williams at bay is an accomplishment in itself. 9/10

brilliant and absolutely stunning performance from Al Pacino..................nice story line; but lacks the "Nolan effect"

I was thinking about genres during this movie and it occurred to me that most genres are a repetition of clichés (almost by definition) and it's really all about if we're OK with that. I'm OK with clichés in comedies (the set-ups, not the jokes) but not with genres like horror or detective thriller, as is the genre of Insomnia. For movies like these, they have to avoid clichés to keep me even in the slight bit interested, and if…

Notably Nolan's weakest film, but a fairly decent thriller on its own. Al Pacino gives a brilliant performance but Robin Williams' role put me right off, though I do have to agree that it is probably his best dramatic performance. Still, it made me feel as if I hadn't slept for days; there was something very bland about it despite how well the mystery unfolded. It just wasn't riveting enough, and by the end I just wanted to sleep too.

Esta peli me provocó episodios de somnolencia. Y muchos bostezos.

Not Nolan's best but far superior to the pretentious snore fest that was the last Batman film. A solid performance from Pacino, but its Robin Williams who shines here. Wish he'd done more roles like this. Makes me want to watch One Hour Photo again

I didn't realize Chris Nolan directed this, yet another good psychological thriller to follow-up on Memento.

Decent enough remake, though I prefer the original. I'm surprised to see this was Nolan...
