That's not fun. That's propaganda, man. All those Madison Avenue types telling you how to live your life. Fast cars, hot chicks... Reese's Pieces... Gucci... Werther's Original. I don't buy into that bullshit!
-BobbyThis is actually my first film from the writing/directing duo of Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck. I've been meaning to watch Half Nelson for what feels like forever now, but I have yet to get around to it. It also stars, Keir Gilchrist, who I've apparently never seen in anything despite him being very busy acting for the last decade.
The story revolves around Craig (Gilchrist), a clinically depressed teenager, who admits himself into a psych ward. Most of the setup I liked. Too often films…

Zach Galifianakis is everywhere these days!
My theory is that Seth Rogan's agent was on the phone, talking about Zach's awesome talent, and all the simpering motherfuckers in the waiting room immediately ran off to recruit the unsuspecting chump into their sack-of-shit movies.
This movie is listed in the comedy section of iTunes, and even the title suggests that it might be "kind of funny". It isn't.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest deals with some of the same issues, but does so with more humour.
This movie is shit balls. Avoid.

It’s Kind of a Funny Story is an honest and refreshing, light-hearted teen dramedy about realistic characters dealing with mental illness.
Whilst we've seen a lot of films deal with mental illness issues more recently, It's Kind Of A Funny Story is still quite original. It may be called "It’s Kind of a Funny Story" but it never tries to be too funny. It's a little misleading, setting itself up to be more of a comedy than it is, but I wouldn't class that as a negative as many other reviews have, as there were a few times that I laughed out loud which felt enough. Instead, it was the genuine story with a youthful twist that I enjoyed the…

I've read the novel before seeing the movie so I could say that both the book and the movie were great, I think that the movie adaptation lived up and included the important parts of the novel. Needless to say, I kind of knew what was going to happen in the movie but to be able to view it visually was something else.
I love the acting of the actors. I think that Keir Gilchrist has done a convincing acting as a depressed teenager and Emma Roberts does play her character well as a suicidal teen. Finally, Zach Galifianakis acts it well as Bobby especially between being funny and depressed at the same thing.
I like how the movie was…

As I grew out of my teen years, I noticed that a lot of the problems that seemed big and scary in high school actually weren't. It turns out all I needed was perspective, and this film manages to do a pretty good job at showing that.
"First world problems" is a term given to problems that are miniscule and usually not worth giving a damn about. So, when someone is suffering through depression but they seem to be a pretty privileged person, it's easy to assign that term to their status.
But I can tell you from personal experience that you shouldn't be so quick to do that. Depression is bad, no matter how well the person's life is…

A feel-good movie for those dealing with any sort of mental illness, think they deal with a mental illness, or otherwise.

It's kind of a piece of shit.

Typical loony teenager film, but with some nice visual touches and a positive message at its heart. Not essential viewing but will probably put a smile on your face by the end.
