I do love a good documentary so here's 100 of them that I personally recommend listed in rough order of…
José and Pilar
The universe won't remember us. It won't remember Homer wrote The Odyssey
"José and Pilar," a documentary by Miguel Gonçalves Mendes, is a deeply moving story about love, loss and literature. It follows the days of José Saramago, the Nobel-laureate Portuguese novelist, and his wife, Pilar del Rio. The film shows their whirlwind life of international travel, his passion for completing his masterpiece, "The Elephant's Journey" and how their love quietly sustains them throughout.
My recent director asked to me to watch this movie as a reference for his new project of documentary that is about to come up. This movie is so special, not only as a movie, but also because it talks about that kind of people who has a different sense of life. That kind people whose their existence changes others people mind, and try to bring to us, among a bunch of stupids and contradictory beings, an alternative way, a breath.
I could understand what he has told and proposed firstly. He wants to bring this atmosphere out to our movie, and point out such sense of care. However, the fact is, we do not have -and will not find-…
Masterpiece! Long live José Saramago and the sweet Pilar, spanish and portuguese language, direct cinema, real love, communism and art!
Way too long. But you won't realize it.
Filme muito bom, mesmo!
Ele continua a ser um génio, e não é por acaso. Os génios são intemporais.
Um documentário interessante sobre um homem que, por acaso, era um gênio da literatura.
An interesting documentary about a man who happened to be a literature genious.
Meet José and the love of his life, Pilar.
José Saramago is known wordlwide due to his books and for being awarded the 1998's Nobel Prize in Literature, the first Portuguese author who has achieved such award.
But in this movie the audience gets a remarkable portrait of the life of the man who provoked and delighted millions with his controverse books. In "José and Pilar" we enter an emotional journey, filled with many peculiar moments of love, sadness and humour while the questions about life and death are always present, making the viewer feel as if one is a travelling companion of this incredible couple.
Stunning photography that will make you want to book a trip to Lanzarote and a very attentive eye of the director makes this movie such a delight to watch.
My attempt to document the movies that came out of my country, in an effort to get in touch with…
