Reviews of Julie & Julia 2009

since i only liked half the movie i am cutting the stars in half.

Although in content this is a fairly bland film, it makes up for it in its good-natured and gentle comedy. Some excellent actors are in this film, such as Meryl Streep, Amy Adams and Jane Lynch, and the characters in the film are well-rounded and believable. Although it probably won't make any top tens, this is certainly a pleasant film.

Bon appetit!
-
An inoffensive piece of fluff with a typically solid performance from Meryl Streep.
-
I ended up feeling like Julie was using Julia. If that was what real life Julie intended, then this is a very good adaptation.

At least the food was enticing.
-
3.5 stars for the part with Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci. 1/2 a star for the rest of the movie. i guess it averages out.

Meryl Streep is absolutely excellent as Julia Child. Amy Adams is utterly loathable as the blogger. If she was more likeable, less moany and didn't treat her husband like crap maybe I'd have been more sympathetic to her and her quest. I'd rather it have been focused on Julia's life as a whole but what we get from that side is so good, it elevates the rest.
Drinking Game: Everytime you're treated to food porn onscreen - or when Julia is over the top with her mannerisms.
Bottom Line: Great half bio-pic / not so great self indulgent 30 something moose. -
Loved the Julie parts, a smart story about passion and blogging, but the Julia parts were a boring and irritating. Meryl Streep may be perfect as Julia Childs (I have no idea what she was really like) but every time she was on screen it was like Barry Humphries or Jennifer Saunders had stepped into the film.
