Nice indie film. Lovely piano version of Yo La Tengo's Green Arrow.

The story is thin, with barely sketched characters involved in unbelievable relationships, and it's all padded out with an incredible amount of dead space. Scenes often begin on empty rooms, with characters entering after a count of four. When the scene ends, we watch everyone walk away.

I keep coming back to this ridiculous moment in the middle. The characters drive off, leaving someone behind. They drive past a neighbor (who we've never seen before). Our lead looks to the…

I certainly enjoyed this flick overall, but I didn't get as much out of it as I'd hoped to. Strange, because this sort of indie comedy is right in my wheelhouse, and I love Amy Adams. Some strong laughs and great characters, but also a tad tedious and overlong, in my book.

    Mittendrin:
“I wonder what she looks like. I bet she's skinny. She probably is. She's skinnier'n me and prettier…

The film as a whole is sweet and moving, but the big story about Junebug is Amy Adams. Her performance is one of the best of the decade, both hilarious and devastating.

Has moments of startling emotion and beauty but is for the most part little more than just a mildly enjoyable indie comedy. Amy Adams is excellent in one of her best roles.

Gimme a break. Typecast actors having thoroughly unbelievable conversations.

Worth the watch just for Amy Adams alone. There is some great character development, each member of the family is fleshed out and has plenty to do. Ultimately though it didn't leave me with much of a message other than, once you leave home, don't ever go back. It felt like the family was never going to accept outsider Madeline, and the only reason they did was because of a tragedy.

Watch the film that put Amy Adams on the map. Absolutely her best performance to date. Sincerity, naïveté and charm all hit new levels in her incarnation of Ashley. The film is quite good too, but she walks off with it.

Morrison seems under the impression that he'll show the rift between the big city art dealer (Embeth Davidtz) and her new husband's spirited/cruel-then-charming Southern family by minimizing the very thing that connects them (namely, the husband - a terribly bored Alessandro Nivola) and making the film the wife's story. Oddly enough, he distracts himself from this with an attention-getting burst of enthusiastic feminine over-hospitality in Amy Adams' pregnant sister-in-law (The Big South as Julia Roberts on speed). More interesting than…

I'm not too sure what to make of this film. I loved the "outsider art" subplot, but otherwise the film was about fairly regular people in a fairly regular family.

I suppose the film wasn't really about George, rather Madeline and George's family, but it certainly felt like it was supposed to be about George, yet he was missing from the film most of the time, and essentially had no character development whatsoever, so I think that was a fatal…
