This biography of the sex-obsessed zoologist strikes a couple of false notes: only Kinsey and his wife show any signs of ageing over the film's 20-30 year span, while the scenes that have been invented for dramatic purposes stick out like sore cocks. But the movie mainly concerns itself with Kinsey's science: his research methods, his findings, and the opposition he faced, and in this it is faultless. The necessarily functional dialogue packs in oodles of information, the performances are pretty good, and the subject matter is everyone's favourite. Excellent.

“Kinsey” ist wieder einer dieser Filme die zwar recht interessant, aber leider auch recht langatmig sind. Der Film erreicht mit seinen 113 Minuten zwar noch nicht mal eine Laufzeit von zwei Stunden, fühlt sich aber an wie ein drei Stunden Werk. Diesen Umstand finde ich ein wenig schade, denn die Studien die Alfred Kinsey durchführt sind äußerst aufschlussreich und auch die Reaktionen des konservativen Amerikas auf Kinseys Forschungsergebnisse können fesseln.

Wenn man sich allerdings auf “Kinsey” einlässt bekommt man einen durchaus guten Film zu Gesicht. Wie geschrieben ist es durchaus interessant den Studien von Alfred Kinsey zuzuschauen und die hervorragende Leistungen von Liam Neeson unterstreicht die interessante Geschichte noch einmal. Unterstützung bekommt Neeson von der ebenfalls gut spielenden Laura Linney (Mystic River, Dave). Sie braucht sich hinter dem männlichem Hauptdarsteller nicht zu verstecken.

Neeson, Linney and Sarsgaard are each really well-cast here and have appropriate chemistry with each other. A good, adult story with a touch of whimsy. Nice Lynn Redgrave cameo too. The film's light touch is critical to maintain the idea of being more relaxed about sex.

A well-crafted, well-acted biopic that valuably opens up dialogue about an often still taboo subject. It's interesting to compare different countries' age ratings of this film - US: R (17), UK: 15, Germany: 12, Malaysia: banned. Wanted to watch this after seeing Far From Heaven to see a less stylised, more relatable depiction of American society in the 1950s.

Affecting, classy biopic with Liam Neeson playing the trailblazing lead character as a likeable, hectoring sex nerd. Plenty of conventional beats formally speaking, but no problem when it's done well. Good on America's fear of sex in public life. Lovely, lovely supporting turn from Peter Saarsgard as Kinsey's lover/guinea-pig/dear friend.

I first saw this movie when I was 14. I HATED it. I thought it was utterly boring, Liam Neeson's performance kind of scared me and, as a teenage girl, I had a much different approach to sex than I have now. Having said that, I rewatched it last year, seven years apart from that first time. I absolutely LOVED it. Neeson is fantastic and the screenplay is one of best I have ever seen. I wouldn't say it is a must-see film for everyone, but it became one of my favorites ever.
