This was much maligned on initial release and hasn't fared much better over time but I actually really enjoyed this bizarre tale.
It centers on the superintendent of an apartment building, Cleveland Heep, who rescues what he thinks is a young woman from the pool he maintains. When he discovers that she is actually a character from a bedtime story who is trying to make the journey back to her home, he works with his tenants to protect his new friend from the creatures that are determined to keep her in our world.
It sounds total hokum but it has great performances from Paul Giamatti as the superintendent and a captivating Bryce Dallas Howard as the mysterious fairytale character, Story.
For me, it's M Night Shyamalans last decent film.

A Hollywood film such as this one should not be this hard to follow. Maybe I'll get more out of it on a rewatch.
Much like Tarantino, I think M. Night Shyamalan is a pretty talented director, but he's got to stop writing and acting. -
We all know what to expect from an M. Night Shyamalan film.
But, for once, the twist is there's no twist. Well, sort of...
Shyamalan is a master story teller, and Lady In The Water is a modern day 'bedtime story'.
So watch it and don't focus on the flaws. Shyamalan shows original visions and creative risk in all of his movies, and THAT'S WHAT I WANT!. So get lost in the hazy fairytale and also enjoy the wonderful performances of Giamatti and Howard.

This is a bizarre, preposterous film.

Thank God for the We Hate Movies guys. Haven't seen this since theaters, and it is worse than I remember.

One of the most utterly ridiculous plots I have ever witnessed, yet inexplicably a little bit engaging. What a fantastically weird film.

I got your back M. Night, I find this extremely touching.

The film shows how bad it is by M. Night Shyamalan putting himself into one of the main roles.

Like this better this time. Well made but still a bit too daft. Fair play for trying something different.

Complete nonsense but surprisingly still watchable if only to see how much more ridiculous it can become.
