I have this odd fascination and love for Will Ferrell. I find him hilarious and endearing. With my fondness for the original television series from the 1970s (and, honestly, I liked the rehashed show that was short-lived in the early 1990s as well) combined with Will Ferrell I thought this could, (regardless of it's well-known flop status and against my better judgement) be entertaining. In wanting to give the film the benefit of the doubt I watched it and and it was really a bad choice.
Within the first fourteen minutes I was again questioning WHY I thought this was a good idea. Between the whorish amount of product placement in ONE scene and the crude and downright unfunny sexist…

I laughed so much I wanted to lie down. Once. Ridiculously uneven on the lols.

If there was a plot to this film I didn't notice. It's a collection of sketches, like an SNL episode with a much higher budget. Will Ferrell had some good moments, but the whole film felt neutered - it was cut down from an R to achieve a PG-13, I guess to make it more family friendly? But I don't think children would appreciate the humour, only teenagers and immature adults like me, so I'm not surprised it didn't make its money back. Still, there are some chuckles to be had if you're in the right mood.

Given this film's reputation as a big budget mega-flop, I really wasn't expecting too much but there are enough moments of inspired lunacy to ensure that Land of the Lost, despite not being vintage Ferrell, belongs in the upper division of his filmography. The film risks being slavishly faithful to a TV show no one but no one remembers but the affectionate aping of the tropes of wobbly-setted, low budget sci-fi is carried off with aplomb. The film's crude humour (largely courtesy of an on-form Danny McBride) and entry level misogyny may mark it as a bullseye for its targeted demographic of 12 year old boys but the more discerning comedy fan is not left entirely wanting with certain moments,…

I don't think this is as bad as people think but it's also not great.

Still really enjoy this. Stupid and fun and I do love big Ferrell.

Land of the Lost was pretty much universally shit on upon its release. I had no desire to see the film, but at the same time I liked the combination of Will Ferrell and Kenny Powers and figured that I'd get at least a few laughs out of the film. For the most part, I was right. Now I've never seen the original Land of the Lost, but the plot of the this movie is fucking weird as hell (after a quick jaunt over to Wikipedia, I found that the film actually is similar to the original television show). Also, the character of Cha-Ka is dreadful and Jar Jar Binks in nature. Beyond that, there's a few jokes that worked, and I can't say my time was completely wasted. Still, you'd probably be wise to look elsewhere for entertainment.

I was so entertained by this movie.
It is completely crazy, very strong on the trash side and every time you thing there is nothing left it can trough at you, there will be much more to come.
The only other movie I could compare this with would be son of the mask though this is more bad than eye winking. -
Holly Cantrell: Marshall, do you know what this means?
Rick Marshall: Yes...I do...it means...Matt Lauer can suck it!B+
