Slow in the start, but began to pick up around 45 minutes into the film. Very interesting character development, though the viewer's relationship with the protagonist was not well established albeit intentionally. The main focus of the film was Commandant "Caro" Vaudieu. Her alcoholism proved to be an interesting aspect of the film, and the relationship between her and Serge was ambiguous and intriguing. Certainly worth watching, but nothing to write home about.

Love, love, love this movie. Intense and viscerally engaging, driven by a very strong lead performance.
