Legally Blonde
2001 Directed by Robert Luketic
Synopsis
Don't judge a book by its hair color!
Elle Woods has it all. She's the president of her sorority, a Hawaiian Tropic girl, Miss June in her campus calendar, and, above all, a natural blonde. She dates the cutest fraternity boy on campus and wants nothing more than to be Mrs. Warner Huntington III. But, there's just one thing stopping Warner from popping the question: Elle is too blonde.

I talked my wife into watching "The Loved Ones". She didn't like it and punished me by making me watch this.

It's no Mean Girls, but had just enough sass to keep me happy

One of my favourite films as a teen, it's a lot less funny than I remember it being but I just adore the moral of this film. It introduced me to feminism and the idea that women don't need to conform to society's expectations. It's a very powerful message wrapped in candyfloss.
I'm relating to Elle Woods a lot at the moment, I'm studying a masters course and have moved to a university that is a lot more serious and po-faced than my undergraduate university. Elle is a good example of a girl who can dress in something that isn't a gray hoodie, have fun and still ace all of her exams.

Urgh I thought I hated this, but having watched it again today after many, many years, I actually kind of liked it. A great role for Reese Witherspoon, and definitely another for the guilty pleasure list.

Learned: You don't really need to go to law school to be a lawyer. No, really.

Downright silly, absolutely predictable and in fact quite dumb, but it does such an amazing job parodying itself and it was so admirably bold and funny doing it, that it was impossible for me not to enjoy Legally Blonde. Though Reese Witherspoon has built for herself a well-respected career that includes an Academy Award, in my mind she will always be typecast for her great performance in this movie as the seemingly stereotypical blonde Elle Woods.

Elle is a smart, savvy woman who grows in significant ways throughout the movie, stays true to who she is, stands up for what is right, and cares about other people. For these reasons, Legally Blonde is worthy of admiration- how many movies present female characters that fit that description? Beyond those points, I resonate with Ebert's feelings about the movie: "I smiled a lot during the movie, laughed a few times, was amused by the logic of the court case. 'Legally Blonde' is not a great movie. But Witherspoon is a star, and the movie doesn't overstay its welcome."

I've never actually sat down and watched Legally Blonde before. While some of the moments were painfully romantic comedy, it was actually a lot better than I anticipated.

Oye, que es surrealista, banal, machista, estereotipada, burda, insípida, intrascendente, pero es que si la echan en la tele la veo. Y me río.

Meh. It was completely alright to watch, but I didn't really care, saw everything coming from a mile away and, now that it's over, struggle to remember any of the plot.

An intelligent and very funny piece of feminist cinema. Superb lead performance from Reese Witherspoon.
