After Dark is the organizer for the annual independent horror film festival After Dark Horrorfest, also known as 8 Films…
An evil leprechaun who has been imprisoned within the roots of a majestic old oak tree, is accidentally set loose on St. Patrick's Day. Once free, he takes out his bloody revenge on the descendants of the people who originally imprisoned him
The thing that helps elevate this above others in the Syfy pile is the sense of humor. I don't know why it's so hard for these obviously no-budget D-movies to have some fun. So many of them are deadly serious and leads to them just being dull. Here we have William Devane and Billy Zane acting like they're just goofing around for a couple weeks in Vancouver while they just happen to shoot a movie. The show-stopper as far as hilarity is when the film comes time for the emotional back-story before the third act finishes and Zane recounts how he just simply lost his wife among a Black Friday crowds. I fucking laughed for minutes on end.
Rubber-monsters vs glowing horseshoes, but Billy Zane steals his scenes and his touching tale of his lost wife is sublime.
