There are a lot of reasons for why you should see Logan's Run, number one among these is that I have seen it and continue to use it as a pop-culture reference despite the fact that it is clearly not popular.
How is a guy supposed to make a joke about a glowing crystal in his hand or dialling up a casual lover for the evening through his TV when everyone keeps looking at him funny. It's a goddamn classic people!

Another seventies cult classic that has dated really badly. From the models and the unconvincing special effects to the futuristic (for the seventies) idea of a dystopian society this at the time was science fiction gold.
Loosely based on William F Nolan and George Clayton Johnson's novel of the same name this story takes place in the 23rd century in a domed city where the population is controlled by an age limit. To avoid over-population everyone once they reach the age of thirty is killed. A computer controlled society that lives a hedonistic lifestyle, the citizens are brainwashed to believe that they will be "Renewed" in a shameful ritual "the Carrousel".

OK. So it's looking a bit rough around the edges. And, yes, I can see the wires during Carousel. But this movie had a profound impact on me as a kid and not just because of a naked Jenny Agutter or a scantily-clad Farrah Fawcett. This was, like, deep. Ya know? Alright, it wasn't really that deep but it sure seemed like it when I was around 8. Or maybe it was the fact that the outside city shots, as obviously fake as they were, reminded me of the Micronauts. Either way, I still enjoy this a lot without really being able to say why.

One of those films that desperately needs a remake.
Luckily, we're getting one from none other than the guy behind Drive.
Maybe he'll add few things this film needed, like more curb stomps and uncomfortable silences.

This is definitely showing its age at this point and probably was about 15 years ago. There are also numerous plot holes that make the whole thing kind of a mess. That said, it is still quite enjoyable in parts, particularly in the beginning when the world is being established and I like watching Jenny Agutter a lot (I thought her and Jordan worked quite well together). There is still the shell of a good movie here, but I have to say at this point I am very much looking forward to Refn's remake with Gosling; ripe for an update.

MYSTERY MARCH CHALLENGE - Week 2
To appreciate this film I had to see this through the eyes of my six year old Dad. By doing that I thought Logan's Run was not a bad film at all. The story was pretty solid, kind of reminded me of Planet of the Apes when they went outside. I was also reminded by Looper, probably because the number 30 has something to do with both of them, and then X-men was in my head for some reason, then it finally clicked clicked, Wolverine's name is Logan. Unfortunately Logan in Logan's Run doesn't have adamantium claws but does in fact have a cool gun that shoots invisible bullets and has a green muzzle…

Some things are so unintentionally well... "far out" both within the text and within the filmmaking (set design, costumes, etc....). Food for thought....

Too long and slow. Not nearly as entertaining as I remembered. Still some great bits, though.

Part of mY Jenny Agutter double bill. A GREAT sci-fi fantasy fable from the 70s with all the allegories you want to read into it, great performances, ample nudity, the right side of 70s camp and a shed load of invention for the budget.

I enjoyed this sci-fi film from the 70's. It had a good story that was really engaging. I wanted to learn more and more about what was going on in this future world. The acting is alright. The effects don't hold up as well. There is a robot in this which is also obviously a guy in a costume. I mean come on this is a year before Star Wars, they could have done a better job. Also the ice cave part made me think of the Ice Cavern from Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time which was cool. The script works. It was a fun watch and I enjoyed this movie from start to finish. Worth a watch.
