Lover Come Back
A riotous new twist in the art of gentle persuasion!
Rock Hudson and Doris Day are together again! Jerry Webster (Hudson) and Carol Templeton (Day) are rival Madison Avenue advertising executives who each dislike each other’s methods. After he steals a client out from under her cute little nose, revenge prompts her to infiltrate his secret "VIP" campaign in order to persuade the mystery product’s scientist to switch to her firm.
I can never decide which I like better:
"As Dad always said: 'a man who can't be bribed can't be trusted.'"
"I'll get you a fair trial if I have to buy out every person on the jury."
This review reportedly contains spoilers. I can handle the truth.
This is not your Mad Men ad agency. As much as I enjoy Doris Day, this is a little too contrived.
Man, I forgot how much Day/Hudson movies irk the shit outta me. (Sorry, @JamesWolcott, but this was effed up!)
I love all of Doris Day's sex comedies and this is one of the very best. It's funny, smart, and stylish. It's also one of the best send ups of the advertising business I've ever seen.
