Denzel is my number one actor and here is Exhibit A with plenty of other evidence in his career.
The first hour is very slow going but it needed to be as the chemistry between Creasy and Pita had to work.
The next hour is a roller coaster-kick-ass ride, where Denzel turns into a no holds barred hit man.
Turn this film on for 5 mins and you tell that Tony Scott directed this with the fast trendy editing that excels all the way through. The colour really does show off in HD on Blu Ray too.
R.I.P Tony Scott-you will be remembered for many years to come, this clearly is another masterpiece added to the many others you have wowed the fans.
Me being one.:-) -
One of Tony Scott's more restrained films, Man On Fire takes its time, and I absolutely love it for that. The relationship between Creasy and Pita is poignant because it is given the time to evolve into something meaningful. Thus, when things get real, it is extra effective. Call me a sissy boy all you want, but the end always forces me to fight back the tears. Oh, and Denzel Washington shoves a bomb into a guy's rectum. That's pretty unforgettable.

Hot damn, does this movie look good on Blu-ray. When "Man on Fire" hit the theaters, it was almost universally praised as a solid revenge yarn - with many adding the caveat that it was over-directed within an inch of its life. Or, rather, over-edited as Tony Scott took to tinkering with the movie in post-production, adding an almost innumerable amount of cuts and splices, at times truly warping the image.
But time has been good to "Man on Fire." The film is now rightfully viewed as a turning point in the career of Tony Scott, the kickoff to what became his most visually experimental phase. And as with many pictures that tend to be overwhelming on the big screen…

It was harrowing, incredibly intense and beautifully made. One of Washington's best roles by far.

The best thing about Man on Fire is the time it takes to develop the relationship between bodyguard John Creasy (Denzel Washington) and Pita (Dakota Fanning) the daughter of a Mexican businessman he's been hired to protect. When Pita is kidnapped close to an hour into the film, it feels like a real loss rather than a pretense for the violent revenge drama the film becomes. Washington's great and Fanning reminds why she was the go-to child star for a while; the relationship and performances are strong enough to overcome director Tony Scott's barrage and stylistic tics. The editing is distractingly hyperbolic, the sometimes hand-cranked cinematography is alternately beautiful and jarring, and there are some groan-worthy narrative miscalculations. Despite all…

The relationship between Creasy and Pita is very real and that's what makes this film fantastic, you're with Denzel the entire movie.

Denzel & Dakota are good and it starts well. However it goes downhill after an hour; not helped by Tony Scott's awful direction. 6/10.

Scott and Washington at their best. R.I.P. Tony

Tony Scott's style can sometimes be a little too much, but it's used just about perfectly here. Visually, the film is very clearly from Scott, but it also takes the time to create dimensional characters. It's pretty standard revenge stuff, but it's done really well. Also, Christopher Walken has some great lines.

Denzel's UNFORGIVEN, Long live the work of Tony Scott.

Great action packed thriller by Tony Scott (R.I.P). It has it all - great plot, thrills, action and even some tear-jerking moments. I don't like the shaky camera-, flash and slow motion "effects" and there was so many scenes that would have been much better without those unnecessary burps. Other than that, not much bad to say about this movie. Mentally scarred traumatized character suits Denzel really well. Loved the film and that's all.

Tough as nails action revenge film with Tony Scott's signature frantic editing all over. Though the film's length could have been shortened from the 2 hour 24 minute run-time.
