I really want to give this film a stronger rating, but it's frankly way, way, way to long at 2h 8 minutes. You could easily cut this down at least 30 minutes and make a really taught sci-fi thriller.
Because the end of the film is GREAT! The last twenty minutes literally had me shouting at the TV.
This is also HANDS DOWN the second best film ever to be on MST3K.
The first is Danger Diabolik. Which AWESOME if you haven't seen it.

probably the best film MST3K have ever tackled - all you can say against it really is it's a bit dull, a bit worthy and rather obvious in terms of who's going to live or die. but it's also a good test that MST3K at their very best (which this very nearly is) can make comedy gold from even decent films - it rather proves their point that they could have done a lot with established cinematic classics as well as the nadir of cinema, something that rifftrax have particularly gone some way to prove...

overly long but quite gripping sci-fi drama with great performances from great cast that also benefits from brilliant John Sturges Direction.

A solid film that builds tension slowly but surely, the final 45 minutes being especially nerve-wracking. Though technically categorized in the science fiction genre, more emphasis is placed on the science than on the fiction, making the story feel quite real and plausible. The script is superb, the attention to detail is impressive, and the actors – particularly Crenna and Hackman – are most excellent in their roles. Also notable is the lack of a musical score, which adds to the eeriness of the situation. Worth watching as long as you aren’t afflicted with ADD and can appreciate a quiet, effectively understated thriller that doesn’t rely on explosions or gunplay for excitement. WARNING: despite the G rating, this film does contain mature thematic elements and some language.
Rated G. Iffy for age 13.

Slow-going but well made and acted film about stranded astronauts. Quite similar to Apollo 13 actually.
