Mars Attacks!
1996 Directed by Tim Burton
Synopsis
Nice planet. We'll take it!
'We come in peace' is not what those green men from Mars mean when they invade our planet. This star studded cast must play victim to the alien’s fun and games in this comedy homage to science fiction films of the 50’s and 60’s.

It's like Independence Day if it shit itself.

- Michael J. Fox grande no siempre tuvo Parkinson.

JUST SAYIN'

why are there different colored deathly ray guns? is there a difference in one's fiery death if shot with the green one as opposed to the red one?

Great cast, great sci fi fun ...very enjoyable

I actually watched this somewhat recently. As much as I bash Tim Burton I actually enjoyed this one, although it scared the shit out of me as a kid (dem alien facial animations, head-swapping, human laser frying).

i almost ashamed to confess that this is perhaps the most watched film in this group, but i have a thing for B MOVIES - and an epic tale like this one make me fall hard.
the writing is perfect, in my humble opinion, with a whole bunch of rich [although two-dimensional] characters that we never lose track of.
the film features a huge cast, and everyone [almost] contributes in a different strange way to the film, nonetheless there’s no clear frontrunner.
the film embraces his B-MOVIEness and showcases an extraordinary and very colorful production design, the martians [although not original] alone blew my mind.
very entertaining and shows that somehow TIM BURTON is best when he doesn’t look for dramatic depth where there’s no dramatic depth. -
wildly funny!

I think this movie gave me nightmares...

STORY
Aliens have finally made first contact with Earth. However, the Earthlings have misinterpreted the intentions of the little aliens and horror ensues. The plot of Mars Attacks! seems ripped straight out of a 50s sci-fi film. Tim Burton accurately captures the spirit and essence of those old campy movies. From the plot itself to the costumes to the acting, the entire movie smacks of mid-century science fiction.
The downside to this is the plot is very ridiculous and there isn't much substance to it. Aliens make contact, humans misunderstand their intention, Aliens attack, humans figure out a way to kill the Aliens. The End. This movie's draw is the set design, costume design and acting talent.
ACTING
A huge… -
The real stars are the Martians. Rendered in CGI, and just fake-looking enough to stick out as unnatural. The huge eyes, the bulging brains with pulsing veins, green skin, bubble-domed spacesuits, and art deco ray guns are all one big throwback in alien design. They run rampant over the world, wreaking havoc everywhere they go, killing indiscriminately and in various ways. It’s just over-the-top and cartoony enough to be hilarious instead of grotesque.
