I've seen French resistance films, and a couple on the Dutch resistance, but first time up for the Norweigans. Really well made, great acting, the lead guy is fabulous as he is in Headhunters. A very worthy addition to the 'resistance fighter' genre.
Norway, still the only country I've not seen a shit movie from.

This is a well made, occasionally thrilling, and surprisingly emotional film, which is only undercut by the feeling that it has been seen before.
Still, the script is tight, and the performances are uniformly great. Worth a watch, especially if you have an interest in lesser known stories from World War Two.

This film is actually Max Manus: Man of War (2008) but hey ho.
This is a really good film, and if you like your war films then this is one to watch! Based in Norway during the Second World War it definitely isn't just 'another war film'... (and you won't find America saving the day either).

Very educational. Shamefully, I hardly ever thought about Northern Europeans' part in World War II. Yet, the movie-making itself seems too ordinary. As I'm not a director, I shouldn't be too harsh but still...

Max Manus is good old-fashioned biopic of a heroic Norwegian saboteur against the Nazi occupation. Aksel Hennie plays the hero as a sometimes rash man of action with little patience for reflection, and if Manus does have an adult’s weakness for alcohol and cigarettes, he’s temperamentally still an adolescent. Manus’ and his comrades’ acts of sabotage are not quite as grippingly recreated as they might have been, and even if true it’s sometimes difficult to believe that Manus took so many bullets and kept on going. Beautifully filmed with perhaps too much care taken to recreate the look of early 1940s Norway — was everything so clean and did everything look so brand new then? — but without much depth of feeling. The acting is generally quite good, but Ken Duken’s dangerously sexy and charismatic Siegfried Fehmer, the German Gestapo officer on Manus’ tail, is perhaps too sexy and charismatic.

If you liked Band of Brothers then you'll like this. Beautiful heartfelt film. Ignore the 2/3 star ratings, they probably struggle with subtitles.

It’s a fictionalized account of the World War II and heroic act of a Norwegian resistance fighter, Max Manus. I think that as an homage to brave people, many of whom lost their lives in the fight, the film does its job well. It’s pretty straight forward but I missed a certain degree of complexity.

Engaging Scandinavian war drama.

A bit long. The story tried to cover too much and would have benefited from focusing a bit more.
