An expedition in the South Pacific lands on a tropical island where the natives worship the mysterious deity Gappa. An earthquake opens up an underground cavern and a baby reptile is discovered inside. The natives warn the foreigners to leave the hatching alone, but they don't listen and take it back to a zoo in Japan. Soon after, moma and papa Gappa start smashing Tokyo looking for their kidnapped child.

    "No touch! Gappa mad! No touch!"
    As far as old school monster movies go it is certainly not one of the best it is hilarious however. Some of the dialogue made absolutely no sense but it was funny so I let it slide. The film quality is also on the low side and it's hard to see stuff at times, which is weird because some parts are during the day and it makes it look like it's night time.

    Daikyojū Gappa (1967) is a tokusatsu kaiju film. Tokusatsu literally being a special effects genre, why don't we have this in english? Is it being kept out of the language by Michael Bay out of sheer terror at what I'd say about him? 'cos I'm saying it already, just in more words.

    But I digress: Back to Gappa, the titular Monster from the Prehistoric Planet.

    An expedition from Tokyo heads to Obelisk Island, which a greedy entrepreneur wants to turn into an island resort.
