Violent remake of the Troma original, it runs about twenty minutes too long, has a few too many characters and gets a little confused in the third act, but Rebecca De Mornay is excellent and Shawn Ashmore proves that he's turning into a solid screen presence.

Rebecca De Mornay is excellent as one bad mother in the not so bad motherfucking Mother's Day. It's brutal, intense, and thrilling. It has it's problems, but De Mornay makes it all watchable and worthwile.

Whoa, what a thrilling ride, thrill after thrill after thrill. I was blown away with the suspense that didn't seem to end. I have to say I usually don't like movies with this much violence, but man this was great. Unpredictable, full of twists, gore, blood, death. Dark as the way I like it. I was actually surprised to like it this much with all the gloom. Great Funny Games type of psychopath thriller from the producers of Saw.

Arguibly Bousman's best film to date. What cold have been a cash grab was actually a tense, extremely violent thriller. Demornay could have taken big bites of ham n cheese here, but I loved every moment she was on screen. One of the better home invasion films as of late (with KIDNAPPED being the top choice).

Rebecca De Mornay shines in this over-long (but well acted and lensed) pseudo-remake of the Troma film of the same name. Why they didn't pare this down into something of a stage-play style thriller is beyond me. There's a good set-up here that would be nice with a smaller cast and scope. Why did we need all of these useless characters again? Other than to get killed, of course. What's the point of running around trying to get money from an ATM when they have suspicion that it's still in the house? Couldn't you just ratchet the tension up at home instead? Not to mention the "we're all animals" theme felt pretty ham-fisted -- especially that "knife" scene, which comes across like stale leftovers from the Saw franchise. Mother's Day definitely could have been worse, but it's just as disappointing that with the talent on display that it wasn't something much better.

Brutal excellence. Layered characters, brutal violence, and a twisted morality make this a keeper.

Happy Mother's Day!
I've seen the original campy exploitation flick and I don't know if it is any better but it's totally different. I really like director, Darren Lynn Bousman, but he can never seem to truly knock it out of the park. This is probably his most mature film, and I love the concept of the crazy family holding the group of friends hostage, and there's actually logic to why they do! Ultimately there is way too many characters for this type of film (the female characters are especially interchangeable), and it takes wayyyyy too long to get to the climax, which is meh. Rebecca De Mornay is fantastically creepy though.

Didn't expect much from this film before seeing it, but I really enjoyed it. I'd recommend it to other horror fans.

Oh yeah, this one worth the watching. Mind-blowing, i would say.

I suppose it's fair to say this is basically a remake in name only, as other than the concept of a mom leading a violent criminal family, this has nothing to do with the Troma film of the same name. On that note, it's about as much of a remake of "Goonies."
Anyway, this has a great cast. Jamie King, Briana Evigan and Ice Man are good in everything I've seen them in and Rebecca DeMornay knocks it out of the park here. She brings an intensity and complexity to her character where things could easily be hammy or cliché. She's by far the highlight of the movie.
There are some tense Last House on the Left/Edge of the Park…

Rujo panttivanki -trilleri. Liiallinen aggressiivisuus ja jännitteisyys syö uskottavuutta.

I was pleasantly surprised by this one. One of the things it does right is that while it shares a basic set up with the original "Mother's Day" in a very general fashion, it doesn't try to remake that film. It's closer to a new version of "Desperate Hours" with some characters inspired by the 1980 film. It's pretty solid too. It does resort a bit too often to failed escape attempts when the story seems to be stalling, but for the most aprt, it accomplishes what it sets out to do.

Piece of modern nu-exploitation done in a gritty-realist style. It's not without its moments but at 111 minutes it outstays its welcome for such a flimsy premise. Rebecca De Mornay is fantastically twisted and compelling in it though and does her best to keep the film together.
