After yesterday's awful Chernobyl Diaries experience ( My pain is here ) I had to turn the tables. I mean I was doing my worst Monsters Ball Halle Berry impression shouting at the TV: 'I need you to make me feel good!!'.
And then Muriel's Wedding came along.....
Thank you Mrs. Colette.
Thank you ABBA.
Thank you.... All is well now*walks off into the sunset whistling Dancing Queen*

Somehow I have gone the past 19 years without ever seeing Muriel's Wedding until now. I tend to avoid romantic-comedies at all costs but every now and then I get an urge to curl up on a Saturday afternoon and watch one, contrary to popular belief I do have extreme amounts of estrogen pumping throughout my body to Incredible Hollie Hulk proportions.
The moment the film actually really improved and became more enjoyable for me was when Muriel runs into Rhonda (Rachel Griffiths), from Sydney on. My favorite television show of all time is Six Feet Under and my favorite character was actually played by Rachel Griffiths (Brenda). Maybe I should try to seek out more of her films, I…

"You're terrible Muriel"
A film that actually improves on rewatches, not that there was anything wrong with it on a first watch, Muriel's Wedding was that other wedding based hit movie of 1994 (Four Weddings and a Funeral being the other of course) all the way from Australia, which was then enjoying a new phase in film making; known as Glitter Film or post Australian New Wave.
Toni Collette owns this movie. A wonderfully talented actress with a flair for both comedy and drama which comes in handy as this is a film that can take you from one extreme to another. That she was just 22 at the time shows what a star she is. A naturally attractive girl,…

Wonderfully poignant tale of a young woman who just wants to get married and at the same time win against those who always put her down.
Collette is so good in this film, portraying a woman who doesn't really know which direction her life is going in. Until she meets Rhonda (Rachel Griffiths) and her life becomes "as good as an ABBA song". The use of ABBA in this movie is just brilliant as nothing can beat an ABBA song and it sums up Muriel's character perfectly.
This film makes me smile but at the same time I find myself crying at the bitter-sweet sadness of it all, in particular the character of Muriel's mother, Betty (Jeanie Drynan) whose sad…

A charming and empathetic comedy. Toni Collette deserved an Oscar for her work.

I love Muriel's Wedding more and more each time I watch it. Toni Collette and Rachel Griffiths are super together. (Being a huge fan of Six Feet Under I love watching Rachel Griffiths) They're goofy, silly, funny and touching together.
The movie is essentially about their friendship and that what you dream isn't always what you need.

I've seen this film many times and it never fails to disappoint. The characters are all well rounded and it strikes that lovely balance between drama and comedy. The ending has such a feel good factor that I just want to join the main characters on their next journey.

The more times I see this film, the better it gets. Manages to be simultaneously hilarious and heartbreaking. Definitely one of my top 10 of all time.
