What a horrible film. Julianne (Julia Roberts) sets out to make sure her best friend (Dermot Mulroney) doesn't marry his fiancee (Cameron Diaz) because she is so much in love with him and outraged that he could be marrying someone else. Every romantic comedy cliché is here dressed up in its best clothes, and the film only doesn't get 1/10 because Rupert Everett was rather good and really appeared not to have noticed how absolutely awful rest of the film was and that he was condemned to play the stereotype 'gay best friend'.

I wish I could be a female or gay man in the 90's so I could just break into song whenever I felt like it.

Romantic Comedies are a genre that mostly got lost in its own cliches, but this Julia Roberts vehicle from the late 90's remains somewhat interesting if only for the fact that it centers around an utterly selfish, destructive protagonist, and the fact that you don't totally hate her by the time the credits roll is mainly due to Robert's performance. She somehow makes it work. The movie also has one memorable scene that features an unreasonably well-performed spontaneous singing around a table, and Rupert Everett in a great role which provides most of the laughs in the movie.

Julia Roberts plays a harpy bi-otch fighting for the most uninteresting groom ever.

This review reportedly contains spoilers. I can handle the truth.

I didn't leave enough time to eat lunch before the film, thinking "Oh, it'll be fine." Wrong. Opening scene... tons of food. She's a fucking restaurant critic? That was the worst.
A letdown after "Muriel's Wedding".

Sure it might not be a perfect screwball, but it did whet my appetite for screwball comedies without even realizing it when I was a youngster.
