Synopsis
Cross your heart...and hope to die.
Twenty years ago in the sleepy mining town of Valentine Bluffs, a fatal mining disaster occurred on Valentine's Day while some of the crew was decorating for a party. "It's a bad time, this time of year. There's bad things coming, my words you hear. Beware the 14th if you value your life."
Such a great 80's film, the remake compared to this, GARBAGE.
The acting was on point, the gore was slim to none, but that doesn't matter because the story was so fuckin' good. The ending shocked me, I thought something completely different and they got me!
But..Will You Be My Bloody Valentine? ;)

I got about forty five minutes into rewatching the theatrical cut, before I looked up what people thought of the extended cut. As a result, I restarted the film, with the extended cut selected, and I am very glad that I did.
I have seen this four or five times now, but this is the first time that I have watched the extended Bluray. In the past, I have flopped back and forth on whether or not I like the film or really like the film, and now having seen all the extended kills, I can say that I love the film. In the extended cut, pretty much every kill has more gore, which is fantastic. Also, the inventiveness of…

WHY WASN'T THE REMAKE THIS AWESOME?!
It's got 80's cheese. It's got a creepy killer that actually seemed like he would have handled a franchise well. Some awesome, original kills. Scenes that were not just suspenseful, but pretty scary. Even creepy. What more can you ask for?
Oh yeah....Jensen Ackles.

One of the better 80's slasher films. The script is well written. There is some decent suspense in this film. The killer just looks creepy and his face mask makes me think of Darth Vadar a little bit cause of his breathing. The Twist at the end was really good. I watched the unrated version and the gore effects were good for the time. The characters work well enough. I will say that if they are going to have a love triangle then it be nice if they connected it more to the ending, still it is good. The acting is alright for this kinda of film. The story is really good. This movie deserves to be better known. If your a fan of Friday the 13th and other slasher films of the time, check it out. Well worth a watch.

Great premise and well executed slasher, and a good baddie in the pissed off miner.

Horror Slasher
Pretty much your basic slasher movie, the Valentines Day twist is different but all the kills are very basic. I still enjoyed it as I am a fan of 80's slashers, so if your looking for something unique this probably isn't it. But if your looking for 80's slasher then this is a decent one, some 80's humor, some good some a little dated, but still a fun watch.

Tarantino’s favorite slasher, which is utter gibberish. All I saw was a feast of bad acting and some great unintentional comedy (the washing machine discovery is a classic!). Since the gore got cut out and then reinstated, every time the Blu skips from pristine quality to grainy footage you know something’s about to happen. Kind of undermines the suspense.
Main characters have no discernible personality or even some stereotype to play off of. Mere hours after watching I don’t think I can pick any of them out of a line-up (well, except the chubby dude with the porn ‘stache, of course). Combine that with a leisurely pace and all I could think of was ‘When are they going to get to the fireworks factory?’. I do love the theme song, The Ballad of Harry Warden.

Scrappy little Canuxploitation gem full of blood, bad poetry and kick-ass Maritimer accents. What separates this one from the rest of the HALLOWEEN knock-offs is that this one is its working-class roots; our killer is a miner who was buried alive when a mineshaft collapsed on him while the supervisors were out at a Union Hall dance. Twenty years later, he's rippin' out hearts and killin' polite young Nova Scotians. Admittedly, it sounds daffy, but it works quite well. The charms of the film, from its Atlantic location to its hoser bit players, are ample enough to compensate for the weaker bits, like pacing and characterization. You should check it out, though, it's a fun piece of cinema.

I'll say right up front that I can't separate the film from my experience watching it. On its own, the movie might not be much, but watching it with friends made for a great time. There's some cool kills here, I like the setting, and the villain has a unique look. Plus there's a certain low budget charm and humour to the whole thing. If I were to watch it again I'm sure it wouldn't hold up, but for now this was fine.

If you watch this, the extended version put out by Lionsgate in '09 is much preferable as it makes all the kills you see all the better... and the nastier. There are gruesome kills, in other words. Sure, some of the people you follow are asstagonists but still, it is overall a fun slasher that is done well, and the intentional (and unintentional) humor lightens things among all the carnage.
My favorite characters (besides Moosehead Beer, which you see so often it might as well be a character) are Axel, a.k.a. Not Aaron Eckhart and Hollis, a.k.a. Not John Candy with that ginormous mustache.

Very solid 80's slasher film with a fantastic villain and premise which is not only suspenseful and exciting but actually fairly creepy. The kills are creative and effective enough in the fact they do not show loads of gore but still are fairly spine tingling. A recommended watch for all fans of horror, maybe not for love birds on that special night though.

One of the better early 80's slashers, made all the better by not having numerous crappy sequels.

Movie 2 of our Saturday Night Slasher Triple Bill
There wasn't a great amount of early 80s slasher movies that stood out from the pack, but this is one of them.
I hated the remake but could that actually be worth a rewatch??
