An AMAZING Swedish coming of age tale concenring a young chap who is sent to stay with some relatives to give his ill mother some recovery time.
The youngster playing the lead puts on an outstanding display with a realistic performance that made me really feel for him with the ups and downs he encountered whether they be the isolation he felt from being estranged from his mother and dog or perving on the ladies.
Funny, sad and uplifting all at once.

One word describes this film. Enchanting...the light hearted, funny nature of the film makes you immediately fall in love with the characters. The tale is realistic yet entertaining until the last second of the film. The director knew the right equation to make a magical picture with no gimmicks and plenty genuine life comedy and tragedy. I highly enjoyed it and would certainly recommend watching it.

La mejor película sobre la infancia jamás filmada. Aún mejor que El Espíritu de la Colmena.

Maybe the most honest and sincere coming of age story filmed.

A charming coming-of-age tale set in 1950s Sweden. Warms the cockles.

Simply put, it's one of the greatest films about childhood you will ever see. Funny and touching in equal measure.

I have always heard how great this movie was and when I finally got around to watching it, it turned out to be good but not as great as I lead to believe. The young actor was really good in the role of son dealing with the fact that his mother was dying and he was sent off to grow up with some people and the audience got experience him in dealing with love, life and other things that an youth deals with. There were some funny things in it as well as some depressing things.

Refreshingly uplifting Scando drama (despite 'sick mum' plotting). Notable for its spry humour and winsomely unshowy young cast. Jättebra.

A coming of age story about a boy who feels isolated and abandoned, Hallstrom manages to avoid the sentimentality that could have spoiled the film. As the boy tries to deal with his feelings of being ignored, he learns to adapt to his new surroundings and the young actor who plays the main role is completely convincing as he reacts to the difficulties that life throws at him. Despite some darker elements in the film, there is a lot of humour with some eccentric supporting characters that helps to make this a warm, funny and touching film.

Young Ingemar is sent to live with relatives when his mother becomes ill.
Delightful story about childhood and growing up in 1950's Sweden.

If you have a soul and/or any feelings at all, you will most likely consider "My Life As A Dog" one of the most touching films ever committed to celluloid. Made in Sweden early in Lasse Hallström's career before he made the trip to Hollywood and became a major hit-and-miss filmmaker, this is a triumph on every level that will simultaneously warm and break your heart, over and over again.
Anton Glanzelius is Ingemar, the young hero of the story who is wise beyond his years, yet no one around him seems to know or even take his feelings into consideration regarding anything. He lives with his older brother and his dying mother, and her health is in such decline…
