Reviews of Mystery Team 2009

Fun and crude which is what I expected from the comedy troupe that did the cock suck memento. It makes fun of the genre and the absurdly dorky characters, there's enough on the movie to keep it moving along, and I'm partial towards Donald Glover. However I doubt there's much to be gotten from a second viewing, the movie could be described as a Scooby Doo episode with some crass and dark humor.

Damn! Where has this treat been hiding? Very much of the Troy Barnes persona can be found in Glover's protagonist, and to me at least, the movie is better off for it. I can control my enthusiasm for the other two. Aubrey Plaza is probably miscast, but I'm a fanboy, so....
To bad "Abed" didn't show up, and it wears out some ot it's warm welcome towards the end, thankfully mending this with a fine ending. -
Possibly one of the funniest movies I have ever seen.

As a comedy, it’s non-stop cringe comedy and gross-out humor the whole way. It certainly succeeded at making me cringe and grossing me out, but it didn’t raise a smile out of me, let alone a laugh — and I’m hard pressed to think why it would be expected to. It’s possible (though rare) for such jokes to be funny, but there has to be an actual joke constructed around the cringes and gross-outs; it involves timing, set-up, a degree…

Lots of fun every time I've seen it. Charlie is hilarious.

Let's get this out of the way first: Mystery Team is a fucking stupid movie. But that doesn't mean it's not a rather funny stupid movie. There's some absolutely terrific one-liners spread throughout. The problem is that the premise wears a little thin by the last act of the film, and I was ready for the crew to wrap things up. Mystery Team does expand my love of Donald Glover, who's hilarious on Community and has a great little rap…

A comedy on the level of Hot Rod from the Derrick comedy team, most notable for a pre-Community Donald Glover (who also scored the movie). A laundry list on inside comedy scene appearances but this is actually let down mostly by having too many jokes that kill whatever tension it manages to build.

Due to my love of Community, I have grown fond of nearly all of the actors on the show. When I learned that Donald Glover had co-written and starred in 2009’s Mystery Team, I was anxious to see this quirky, sometimes unexpectedly dark comedy.
The film feels almost childish at first, and as it progresses, the juxtaposition of these innocent protagonists in adult situations is quite funny, but there are moments (such as the absurd strip club scene) that outstay…

A surprisingly really well written satire on those old child detective stories. Donald Glover sells it with a supporting cast of pretty good indie actors. Well worth a watch.

You'll feel so stupid laughing your dummy ass all the way through this one. But I forgive myself.

Definitely Not For Kids
At times it was hard to take it seriously. The child-like ignorance brings about some funny moments, but to presume that these guys are completely oblivious to this point in their lives seems odd. However, the script does handle the more dramatic coming-of-age elements rather well and you'll like the characters regardless.
If you want an idea what the movie's like, look up "Mystery Team Adventures: The Case of the Haunted Hotel" on youtube. It's a 5 minute short with the same characters.

This had a few big laughs, was competently made, and sweet. I think Aubry Plaza had the best line, "he blew in my mouth."
