Comedy = any discourse or work generally intended to be humorous or to amuse by inducing laughter.

This film= ^ not that.

Those who don't 'get it' are simply missing out.

It seems to be one of those films people either love or hate, and I must say I'm one of the former. Napoleon Dynamite is a perfectly cast quirky comedy with a hilarious script and musical score to match. Not to mention wonderfully shot.

There's a fine line between being funny and being annoying, and Napoleon Dyamite treads that line very carefully. There are some laugh-out-loud moments, there are some cringy moments and there are some tender moments, it's comedy with a heart.

I did find some of the plot to be disengaging, and some of the characters to be unnecessary, but overall it's a film that makes you laugh and feel good about it, if nothing more.

The tetherball scenes raise up a bad memory: In 5th grade, we were assigned various chores. One week, I was in charge of putting up the tetherballs. But I was clumsy, weak, and chubby. I couldn't climb a freaking pole and hang a rope on it. The girl who was my partner had to climb up there every morning for a week. I was humiliated, and it did nothing to alleviate a lifetime of insecurity. What the hell was that teacher thinking?

Damn it, Napoleon. Why did you have to make me think of this crap instead of pinatas and sweet bass?

I love this movie! The characters, the music, the cinematography, the script are all brilliant. Once again it is the simplicity of this movie that makes it so special. It strikes the perfect balance between melancholy and comedy!

Je ne m'attendais pas du tout à cela à la base plutôt film cliché lycéen américain (popularité, bullies, ...).

En fait tout est présent mais détourné/en cliché tout en étant très drôle.

Très brillant aussi (scénario, personnages, les contre-pieds, le final, ...)

Le montage, la photographie en font un univers à part.

It wears a little thin after a few viewings but it's one of the most original and bizarre films of recent years.

I'm one of those that "gets it".

The mother of all awkward, indie comedies. Quirky, odd characters with bizarre plots and dodgy settings, but overall a very watchable film which has almost single-handedly spawned a genre of its own.
