A must see for anyone who is a fan of the Elm Street series! Loved every minute of it <3

"Freddy is to nightmares, what 'Jaws' is to water"
'Never Sleep Again' is 240 minutes long, and in all fairness breaking down a saga of 8 films (if you count 'Freddy vs. Jason' part of the Nightmare saga), that amount of time is justify, But the documentary is highly entertaining and it feels like 60 minutes.
No stone is left unturned, every subject and every question is ask, from why Craven didn't return to Nightmare 2 to the controversy about Kelly Rowland's "faggot" rant in 'Freddy vs. Jason'.
This is a work of love, passion and enthusiasm to a franchise that meant a lot to the directors (and it shows). An outstanding documentary, that I can rate next to 'Heart of Darkness' and 'Dangerous Days'.
And that's only disc 1, I still have the audio commentary and 103 minutes of extended interviews.. This is a DVD that any Nightmare fan must own.

Incredible and detailed look at the entire series. Interviews with practically every cast member. Almost All of the memories and tidbits are interesting and they don't shy away from some of the more controversial topics (the director being a bastard on set, the way part 2 was attacked for their gay themes, etc.).
This is one of those documentaries that's just as interesting as the actual movies!

If the idea of a professionally made, four-hour (!) documentary that exhaustively chronicles the entire NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET franchise (including the awful, short-lived '80s TV series "Freddy's Nightmares" and 2003's FREDDY VS. JASON) sounds a little like heaven to you (sure did to me!), then this is an absolute must.
At least half an hour is devoted to each film (series high point DREAM WARRIORS justifiably receives a full 45 minutes), and there is an absolute wealth of fascinating interview snippets from cast members, directors, producers, writers, effects men, right on down to (and I'm not kidding), "Girl on Bus #2," and the result is an absolute treasure trove of stories that are funny, informative and endlessly surprising. The best documentary on a film/film franchise ive ever seen. It cover all the films from the first right through to Freddy v Jason, and deals with each film in turn, in order. Full of in depth interviews and insightful facts and trivia. What struck me was how very honest everybody was that was interviewed. People admitting what they liked and hated with each film. Wes Craven and Bob Shaye are very honest about thier shaky friendship. Effects guys going into details as to how they got around budgetary problems, and also admitting what they didnt do well because they didnt have the time. All of the films directors are interviewed as are Kane Hodder who feels he was let down by not being cast as Jason for Freddy v Jason. If your a fan of Nightmare On Elm Street or just a fan of film making then this film is not to be missed.

Probably a little too long, but very interesting interviews about the entire Elm Street saga. I split it up over 2 viewings so I watched 1-3 then 4-numerous sequels, tv shows, toys and tie-ins!!! I found all the stuff about the merchandise really entertaining and slightly bonkers, and now I'm going to crack open my DVD box set and watch the movies in order - including part 5 which I have never seen because it looks so bad!

That was a very quick almost-four hours, I must say. The movie gives what it promises: an overview of the saga as a whole, from the first film to Freddy vs. Jason including the TV series - an analysis of each movie, a bit about the conceptions, the shooting and the reception of each work and also a bit of the story of New Line Cinema, a company that is what is it today thanks to, specially in the beginning, this franchise. A very fun watch if you're a fan of the series - and given the huge part it had on my childhood, I guess I qualify as one.

Pretty much a fun four hours. I just wish they had found a few more of the rare Dream Warriors to interview. Or the Goo Goo Dolls since the wrote the theme to Freddy's Dead.
But you can learn a lot about the series and it flies by.

The homoeroticism of 2! The hideous Dokken song for 3! The awful TV show! The crap directors! A fun ride through the weird history of a burned-out franchise.

"Dear Johnny Depp/Patricia Arquette,
Our film company is in the process of making an extensive and exhaustive documentary chronicling the history and legacy of the movies in the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. We already have a vast amount of footage, containing interviews with the writers of the films, the directors and producers, various crew members including make up and special effects and most notably we have interviewed almost every single cast member that uttered a word in this well loved series. We were wondering if you would be available for an interview about your time spent making the film and your thoughts about the franchise in general, especially as it gave you a big break into the industry?""Dear film making people,
Nah, I can't be bothered to show my face and talk about a film. Why should I, I'm rich beyond belief? Now fuck off and stop bothering me,
Yours, J. Depp/P. Arquette. " -
