An utterly bizarre little movie, Observe and Report has an offbeat sense of humour that I must admit I'm a sucker for. It has this brutal and often dark sensibility that you can see in films like American Psycho and Goon. It must be said that the style doesn't always work as there are patches that desperately need a release of tension, but when it does hit, it hits hard.

You know what really sucks? Observe and Report came out a little under three months after Paul Blart: Mall Cop and while Paul Blart, a by the books nothing risked movie, was a huge success that made over 183 million dollars Observe and Report couldn't even scrape together 30 million when it is the afar funnier and much better movie. I'm sure the fact that Paul Blart was a movie that you could take your kids to helped factor into it but still. I also hate it when people call this a "naughty rip-off" of Paul Blart? What? Fuck no they are two completely different movies!
Anyways enough of the Paul Blart comparisons. Observe and Report is a damn funny…

Incredibly disjointed dark comedy that's just a lil' funny despite Rogen's enthusiasm. Also spends a little too much time with people simply screaming "fuck" at each other, I mean, it warrants a chuckle the first 5 times but talk about recycled material. :/
A tighter script and a more coherent story could've saved a lot and made this film much more enjoyable. It also needed time to give its character's relationships to breathe (Ronnie's friendship with Dennis, his alcoholic mother etc.)
Unfortunate, since I liked the themes it tried to tackle and the protagonist's somewhat offbeat, delusional psyche was kind of fun.

Por ahí leí que era el Taxi Driver de las comedias babas con Kevin James. Cuánta razón tienen.Por lo demás, un especímen completamente inclasificable.

This is to Taxi Driver as Fred: The Movie is to The King of Comedy, except it's actually funny.

Film #56 Of The December Project.
Two movies about mall cops going above and beyond the call of duty came out at around the same time. One was Paul Blart: Mall Cop, a kids movie I was generally uninterested in, and the other was Observe And Report, which I was rather excited to watch. Well, 3 years later I have finally got around to watching Observe And Report, and while Paul Blart: Mall Cop pleasantly surprised me, this movie was a little disappointing.
The story is pretty basic and tries hard to remain interesting, and Rogen's character (and really, everyone elses) is so damn unlikable that I just had no stakes in what happened. It has a few funny moments but a lot of the jokes don't land.
Worth a watch if you're bored with nothing better to do, but I wouldn't particularly recommend this.

Eh... I dunno, this wasn't really up my alley. I'm all for dark comedy, but I found the story here a bit too conventional and stupid to justify the tone. I mean, I liked Seth Rogen's character, he was interesting and fairly well-played, but the movie is afraid to go far enough with him. It settles for wacky comedy, which doesn't really work in something like this.

Delusional, bipolar mall cop Rogen decides to be all he can be , by dating the cosmetics salesgirl he covets (Anna Faris) and joining the local police department, if they'll have him.
Wonderfully perverse comedy with anti hero Seth Rogen in one of his best roles. It's all done in the worst possible taste from Jody Hill and feels so anti American whereas most of the characters are losers, and stay that way all the way through. It's refreshing and hilarious -

After watching the trailer for this film I thought this was going to be just another version of Paul Blart Mall Cop that hapened to come out just a few months before this. I expected this to be the same thing except that instead of having the funny Kevin James it would have another likeable actor, Seth Rogen. But I could not have been more mistaken, maybe the premise is similar, but the movie is very different. This was a much darker film, the comedy is dark and at some points it might even seem like a drama. Yes it is about a mall cop who takes his job way to seriously and even dreams of becoming a real policeman…

A seriously, seriously dark comedy. Good moments though and Ray Liotta is as weird as ever.

The cast did make me laugh a few times but I could help but feel really dirty after watching it.

Terrible. Lacks any semblance of comedy.
