Office Space
1999 Directed by Mike Judge
Synopsis
Work sucks.
Peter is a drone for a software company well on his way to a nervous breakdown when a hypnosis mishap opens his eyes. He becomes so apathetic toward his job that he can't even muster up the energy to quit. His new no-work ethic is mistaken by a pair of corporate headhunters as "middle-management potential," and he is promoted as his pals Michael and Samir are laid off. Frustrated in his attempts to be down-sized, Peter hatches a plot to embezzle the company.

I would SO buy a Jump To Conclusions mat.
I don't think it would be an exaggeration to say that I love Mike Judge. Beavis & Butthead and King Of The Hill are two of my favourite TV series of all time and when it comes to the latter especially, I strongly distrust anyone that dislikes them. His versatility and range of wit really does fascinate me.
He shows an even greater range with Office Space, a comedy that I had rather ominously seen and heard described as 'funny, especially if you work in an office'. Ugh, I normally hate films that require you to have a particular job to make…

"You see Bob, it's not that I'm lazy, it's just that I don't care."-Peter
Starting today, I'm going to watch most of the highly praised movies that I've not seen yet; I'm going to be watching them every few days or so. My goal is to watch at least 30 films during my summer break. The first movie I chose to watch is Office Space.
Look, comedies are definitely not my favorite genre of movies, as it is rare for me to laugh really hard in movies. I'm more of a guy who loves intense, dark, inspirational, mind blowing, and deep dramas or crime/thriller/action movies.
I only like comedies if they are DONE RIGHT with a CLEVER AND FUNNY script(Borat,… -
Surely most of us can relate to the frustration and tedium of working in an office? If you can't, I envy you. For a year I suffered like the characters here in Office Space in a soulless corporation doing work that, ultimately, means nothing - so I could very much relate to Mike Judge's acerbic look at the hell of office work, which despite being rooted in the late-90's loses none of its potency over ten years on.
However, it didn't quite tickle my funny bone in the way I expected it to, given the cult praise it achieved over the years. Don't get me wrong, it's damn funny in places - certainly whenever Stephen Root (in a performance he…

Required viewing for anyone who has ever worked in an office. Which I do. The early exchanges, in which our here Peter is hassled about the same minor thing by five different people are way too familiar. I wish that was an exaggeration.
Mike Judge is more of an ideas man than a storyteller. As with Ideocracy, the story plays second fiddle to the job of watching some great characters banging their heads against the central conceit of office beauraucracy. It also has some nice digs at the service industry, through Jennifer Aniston's harassed waitress.
Gary Cole's potrayal of banal, drawling office evil has become iconic, but for me Steven Root nicks the movie as the mumbling Milton. A shambling…

Extremely overrated but it has the odd funny moment.

I've watched this film more times than I care to count. It was a staple on VHS back when I was a student, and it's remained a regular ever since.
It's a comfort movie; I don't need to be paying that much attention to laugh along with it.
You should watch it.

Highly quotable, totally relatable and funny as hell! An instant cult classic that withstood the test of time with flair. And years from now, it will still stand.

Damn it feels good to be a gangsta.

Yeaaaaaaaaah if you could just go ahead and watch this film if you haven't seen it before, then that would be great. Mmmkay?

A great film about the monotony of the workplace and a man who decides to do something about it. Stephen Root's character Milton provides most of the humour with his mumbling and constant threats of arson. However this is fundamentally a film about achieving happiness in the dead end corporate world of modern America.

While I did find it funny, and enjoyable, I found it overrated.
