Continuing my journey to see every single 007 film before the release of Skyfall, I just got finished watching the sixth Bond film, On Her Majesty's Secret Service which would mark the beginning and the subsequent end to the Lazenby Era.
Following Connery's departure from the role following You Only Live Twice, George Lazenby filled in his shoes. People give Lazenby a lot of shit, claiming he's the worst actor to play the role and for the life of me, I don't understand why. In my opinion, there is no "worst" actor who played James Bond just as there is no "worst" actor who played The Doctor on Doctor Who. It's just that each actor played the role differently and…

Part of:
Dr. No-vember or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bond FilmsThis never happened to the other fellow.
-James BondThis film proves that the villain's master plan has no correlation with the quality of a James Bond film. Without a doubt Blofeld's conquest for world domination this time around might be the dumbest idea yet, but it doesn't matter. The fact that he has a plan that needs to be stopped is all that really matters because the real story is the chase this time around.
It's also the first James Bond film without Sean Connery, and I must say I love the opening sequence where they introduce George Lazenby. His face is obscured…

First film of the Adapted April Challenge
This somehow reminded me of how back in the sixties ABC interpreted Batman and translated it to the legendary TV series. It is insane, camp and quite absurd.
The plot is completely out there. Blofeld (a rather bland Savalas) has a harem of hypnotized honeys and other insane shenanigans up his sleeve to achieve world domination. Bond thwarts his plans by making love to a lot of women, skiing a lot and delivering the most hilarious one liners whenever possible ('I have four golden balls. Would you like to see them?' I'm so going to steal that line)
The action betrays its age but is really well done and at points very exciting.…

Day six of the Bond Film Marathon, film 6:On Her Majesty's Secret Service.
In his only film as the super spy, George Lazenby makes quite a bold entrance into the audiences eye and is a electric and charismatic as ever. OHMSS is one of the best in the franchise and ranks highly with many people and fans alike. It's just a shame that Lazenby decided to do only one film. With his age and physique, he could of played Bond well into the early 1980's.
After saving a Women from mysterious men on the beach, Bond finds himself in love with that women, Tracy di Vicenzo. Putting in his resignation, M gives him one last assignment. His mission is to…

Countdown to Skyfall continues with On Her Majesty's Secret Service, the 6th Bond film!
This has always been the most unfairly treated Bonds, due to a lot of factors. In reality, it is one of the best Bond stories, and like the best Bond stories, it features 007 as a real character, not a one liner machine. The ending is also the most heartbreaking moment in the entire franchise.
Bond Essentials Review:
Bond: You will often hear the comment that Lazenby is the worst Bond. This may be true, being that he only had this one Bond film. But if he is indeed the worst, then every James Bond has been spectacular. Lazenby is great here, and he's very unfairly…

"We have all the time in the world."
Probably the most underated Bond movie, OHMSS is simply one of the best in the series with George Lazenby as 007, John Barry's score is excellent with a great title sequence, Telly Savalas makes for a top Blofeld. Lazenby & Diana Rigg are great in there scenes together, along with Casino Royale its the closest to Ian Fleming's novel. If you havent yet seen it give it a chance you might be surprised.

Much better the second time, and Bond films get an automatic star for having a ski-chase in it. Can't recommend it, but definitely aged well.

A new Bond actor and brings a new side to the character. George Lazenby is much less charismatic than Connery but a much more physical menace on screen in this unique bond film. The movie dares to do things the other more generic action bond films before it. Bond is not on a mission from start to finish, its his random meet of a woman that sets things into motion this time around. Bond in love as well as Lazenby in brutal fighting scenes bring to mind Casino Royale in good way. Shame this movie is way too long at 2h 20 min as I really admire the action and the story in this Bond movie.

Fans of James Bond will obviously miss the original 007, Sean Connery, in a story that has so much emotion, excitement and tension right from the pages of Ian Fleming, that it's hard to watch the debut of George Lazenby without wondering how it could have been so different.
The film rattles along with the usual wonderful locations in London and Switzerland, and gives a few decent action sequences (the hotel fight and Piz Gloria climax for one) with a strong supporting cast like Diana Rigg as the ill-fatedTracy di Vicenzo and Telly Savalas as Blofeld, giving the best they can as 007 tries to stop Blofeld from launching a virus to eradicate all sources of natural lifestock and aggricultre…

So, the local Museum/Art Gallery/Small Cinema is currently hosting a Bond series. Every Thursday, a different Bond actor is showcased in all their glory on the screen. It's free, fan driven and naturally I was going. Unfortunately I missed the Sean Connery offering (Dr No - argueably they should have shown You Only Live Twice surely) so I ended up dropping in at the Lazenby level...
On Her Majesty's Secret Service (or OHMSS from here on in) is one of those odd Bond films. It the one that a lot of people discount straight away when complining top 10's or 5's because, well its Geroge Lazenby...the one off. However, for every person who has done this, there is someone who…

This one was tough to make through. Just way too long.
