i asked myself i asked why have i never heard of "pawn shop chronicles," a movie full of famous actors that we all know and love such as ashlee simpson and dj qualls? and once i watched it i realized exactly why i didn't know a movie starring paul walker as a meth head named "raw dog" & brendan fraser as a shitty elvis impersonator existed - it is because it sucks, bad. 2013 redditcore ass movie. its copy of a copy syndrome cuz its just a shitty tarantino ripoff without any of the tru obsession with cinema that makes a qt movie actually decent. also like is this borne from a culture that created a reality show abt a pawn…
"This ring belonged to my wife. I want you to tell me who sold you this ring."
Wayne Kramer, director of Running Scared and The Cooler, brings us this anthology film where three separate stories are all connected in some way to a local southern pawn shop. The screenplay was written by Adam Minarovich, and there lies the problem of why this movie couldn't quite grasp the spirit of the film it was trying to imitate: Pulp Fiction. Minarovich and Kramer are no Tarantino and this is even more proof of why Tarantino really is a genius. These grindhouse B movies are no easy task to imitate and mixing comedy and shocks doesn't always work. The result can often be…
For an ensemble film co-starring Brendan Fraser and Matt Dillon and involving interconnected stories and vehicular accidents, this was so much cooler than Paul Haggis' Crash. The most depraved anthology movie since Burning Palms. A triptych of blazing comic fireworks that ends up as a satisfyingly juicy melt. Had a lot of fun!
This has a great cast that’s completely squandered. This is another Tarantino knock off involving 3 stories revolving around a pawn shop that sort of intertwines. There’s not a heck of alot to say, it wasn’t particularly funny nor interesting. I only watched this for Paul Walker and he nails his brief part.
"Why we gotta hate the Jews, though? I just found out Jerry Springer is a Jew. If I saw him in the street, I'd kiss his ass and ask him for an autograph. And look, I have 3 Adam Sandler DVDS and I just found out he's a Jew, too."
A whacky coked-up Southland Tales-esque anthology film all centered around some cheap boondock pawn store run by wise-cracking Vincent D'Onofrio and Chi McBride. Filled with a handful of wildly eccentric characters - like a yellow-toothed, methhead, white-supremacist confederate Paul Walker who holds up a crack house with a clown mask and bow & arrow, - and a hilarious script, Pawn Shop Chronicles was far funner than I had expected. It shockingly took…
Figured I'd give an unwatched Paul Walker film a try, as my form of memorial or whatever. Problem is, he's not in it all that much.....probably go for a rewatch of Running Scared tomorrow instead.
Now, back to the topic at hand....PSC is a pestering redneck trying to look an/or sound as cool as Tarantino. That was just never going to end up looking like much. It starts of funny enough, with Walker, Kevin Rankin and Norman Reedus in a gas mask, but after Thomas Jane's petite cameo it drags an awful lot, the point of no redemption being Brendan Fraser performing Amazing Grace. The whole goddamn song. In Elvis costume. I was praying for a fat lady to utter just one tone.
This started out looking like a crime/comedy that didn’t seem promising as basically it tells two stories connected by the pawn shop.
The first story featuring Matt Dillon and Elijah Wood was surprisingly intense and somewhat disturbing but in a great way. The other features Brendan Fraser which was pretty good as well.
Great cast rounds out this enigma of a movie.
This was unexpectedly good.
The critics hated it but I found it perversely entertaining. It's like a car crash...but without the disturbing afterthought that someone might be dead in that accident that has traffic backed up for miles.
