A lot of people hate this film and claim it was where the franchise truly met its downfall.
I love this just as much as the first film.
Sue me.

This film is much like a burp while French kissing.
It completely ruins what should really be a pleasurable experience.

Good popcorn fun, but lacks the substance of the original film. This is clearly geared more toward the younger audience, as evidenced by the completely slapstick and goofy action scenes.
Storywise, there's really nothing going on here. It seems like a big excuse to show Davy Jones and the kraken. The East India Trading Company wants Capt. Jack Sparrow's compass because...? They recruit Will Turner to help them and imprison Elizabeth Swan to make sure he does what he was recruited to do. However, halfway through, Elizabeth is on another ship and ends up with the rest of the crew anyway, so that part of the plot was just thrown away.
Instead, it ends up being all about the kraken…

Where is it? Where is the thump-thump?
-Jack SparrowI'm not sure what happened here. Terry Rossio and Ted Elliott return to write the script for the first sequel, while no one can blame them for being lazy, they go a little overboard. Maybe it's the fact that Disney was able to sign on practically the entire cast of the original for two sequels shot back to back and the writing duo wanted to make sure every character felt important to the story.
The basic plot is Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) has a very serious dept that is come due and he will do whatever it takes to get out of it, including screwing over enemies and friends alike. That…

When the first one came out in cinema I saw it with my friends around 4 times. Then the dvd came out and I watched it 10 more times. It was easily my favorite film besides maybe Lord of The Rings. Anyway, when this came out I was a little older but it still blew me away. But now, my first time seeing it in years it doesn't hold up too well.
The story is put on the back-burner for this film, it's more like a buffering period for the third film, because of this the sense of adventure isn't as strong but there still is a lot of fun in here. Davy Jones looks fantastic, it is a staple…

The second round of swashbuckling adventure with Captain Jack & co is a fine and dandy dose of pirate fun.

It would have been a better film if it wasn't trying to be connected to part three. Think Matrix Reloaded to Matrix Revolutions.

I saw this in high school all I remember were pirates and Keira Knightly<3

Lots of tasteless filler with a sprinkle of good here and there. You start to lose focus and stop caring when scenes that are supposed to create some sort of tension are overstretched beyond comprehension, it all becomes too pointless.

I've seen this film twice now and still don't get it.

This movie's sole existence seems to only serve the purpose of making the 3rd movie make sense.
With that being said, it's still mildly interesting, nowhere near as entertaining as the first film, but enjoyable. All the favorite characters return, for the most part, and the pirate atmosphere is as good as ever. The movie did throw in some extra slapstick humor and obnoxious actions scenes in there, obviously catering to the overwhelming response from younger audiences that loved the first movie.
The only thing that pissed me off was the ending. That ending is terrible, and it doesn't feel like an ending at all.

Not quite as fun or exciting as its predecessor, but still a bit of a shameless good time.

Bill Nighy is actually quite a bit of fun to watch, so even though it's a sequel and it doesn't capture the magic of the original, etc., I still enjoyed it.
