A fun romp. We switch the roles of the aliens and the humans. The kids will like it.

Harmless fun

Quality animation but meh.

The beginning of the movie was ingenious, not letting us see the faces of the characters and such, and the plot was actually nice providing some laughs. I liked Rover, the dog-like rock-crazed robot, and the alien dog, which did resemble another Alien. Also liked the 50's atmosphere of the planet.

The "humans are the alien invaders" idea is a pretty great one for a children's movie, but sadly it doesn't really live up to the premise.
A major problem is that they acting is as lackluster as the character design. Most characters looked and sounded incredibly generic (why bother paying for The Rock when he does "generic American hero" voice?), with the exception of a pretty funny Gary Oldman and John Cleese.
They hit a lot of the expected beats. There were a few funny moments, mostly involving the rover or the alien-like dog-creature. A few clumsy hippy, penis, and anal-probe jokes. All wrapped up in a depressingly generic movie. This could have been much better.

I feel like when this film came out it went largely unnoticed. Which is a shame because it is great, such a great idea and packed full of hilarious sci-fi references.
The whole film is like a homage to the old science fiction B-Movies of alien invasion, set in a 1950s style suburban town, mimicing America but is actually an alien world. The actual human Astronaut (voiced by Dwayne Johnson) lands on what he thought was an uninhabited world.
It has a great voice cast with Justin Long, Seann William Scott, Gary Oldman, John Cleese.
The animation style is outstanding and who ever thought of using a tiny cute Xenomorph from the 'Alien' franchise is an absolutely genius. -

Some fun pop culture riffs and movie references but sadly the story didn't come together in a satisfactory way.
