I couldn't put this better than (and I'm in a rare agreement with) The Guardian's Peter Bradshaw:
A dumbed-down, screeching, gibbering, banana-peeling, PG Tips-drinking festival of nonsense.I remember it being a massive disappointment at the time and a rewatch does it no favours, it's not even on a par with the original's patchy sequels. At least Tim Roth seemed to have fun and got paid for it.

A really odd choice of film for Tim Burton to make, this one, a very ill advised remake of an iconic, cult movie. Perhaps it deserved updating to take into account new strides in technology, but this version of Planet of the Apes limps right out of the gate and largely fails to pick up steam at any point, thanks to a script that seemed to forget little things like characterisation, remarkably bland direction from Burton and an ending that... well, I'll get to that.

This is an average sci-fi movie, but goes against a lot of the original ideas from the original 1968 version. Even though the original isn't great I preferred it over this new version.

Not phenomenal, but pretty good. The reboot is certainly worth watching, and I was in a Planet of the Apes marathon mood.

I wanted to love this movie so badly. I think immediately as it was over, I still thought I liked it. But then I started to think about it and I realized how damn stupid it was. The makeup is great, but otherwise there's just nothing interesting going on here. Big disappointment.
