Pretty much, movies I'm scared to revisit, due to the fact, my childhood memories, might be destroyed forever and ever…
Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol
On land, on sea, or in the air, no place is safe from them!
A new batch of recruits arrives at Police Academy, this time a group of civilian volunteers who have joined Commandant Lassard's new Citizens on Patrol program. Although the community relations project has strong governmental support, a disgusted Captain Harris is determined to see it fail.
I will NOT stop watching Police Academy films until my ransom demands are met! First demand - send me more Police Academy movies - I'm all out...
Don't they know putting Capt. Harris in charge to the Police Academy is a disaster? Capt. Harris can't stand the hi jinx of the misfits in the Police Academy! Things are going to get wacky! I hope Mahoney, Hightower, Jones and the gang can come out on top for the 4th time in a row!
So, we get Capt. Harris back as the antagonist - and lose the Capt. Mauser from the last two films - but they are interchangeable characters anyway. We also get Sharon Stone for a love interest for Mahoney…
The fact that there isn't a spin-off series of Police Academy movies focusing solely on Tim Kazurinsky and Bobcat Goldthwait's Sweetchuck and Zed characters is a goddamn travesty.
My personal favorite of the series. It'd go downhill from here on but 1-4 remain entertaining. We've got all of the staples of the series returning for the final time(G.W. Bailey is an extremely welcomed back addition after missing 2&3). Also we've got a young David Spade as a young trouble maker (skateboarding is not a crime!) with Tony Hawk as his double. And ( pre-Basic Instinct)Sharon Stone as Mahoney's love interest. It's the same old hijinx but with the twist of the Citizens On Patrol program being added to bring in yet another motley crew of ragtag crime fighters. Good old fashioned 80's fun.
The last Police Academy movie with Guttenberg, The Blue Oyster, and laughs. My personal favorite out of all the sequels.
Connection to previous movie - Steve Guttenberg
This is actually my favorite of the whole series. I love this one. I love the theme song. Bobcat is even better in this then in the previous one. It also has Sharon Stone and David Spade in early roles.
On a gag-per-minute scale, Citizens on Patrol tops Back in Training while also, thankfully, expanding the locales -- Jones, Nogata, and Callahan fight a ninja gang (!!) on a pirate ship (!!!). The cast is all given equal footing with the rolling vignettes & comic set-pieces: Zed & Sweetchuck's gymnasium shenanigans take the pole position for me, with Hightower's voodoo shaman following closely behind. Captain Harris' return signals the best cross-section of the first four's casts, and the world is better for finally having him jive with the Blue Oyster Bar gang.
I had this one on tape and watched it over and over and over. I rented all the other police academy movies many times. They are completely horrible.
It has been a few months since I've watched a Police Academy movie so I figured this was the time to see one; I only had faint memories of this one from my childhood, such as a gag or two, the balloon & biplane filled ending, and the large African-American man known as House carrying his own moped. It's quite silly and yet I laughed enough-even if some things weren't “politically correct” by today's standards-to where I can say this is OK.
The plot is about having Citizens on Patrol to help assist the police but it's a flimsy excuse to have a bunch of a random gags & a threadbare story. Love interest Sharon Stone only appears in a few scenes;…
A slow decline in the series
Never realized how formulaic this series became...
The franchise, even though the skits are a bit stale at times, keeps it watchable through their distinctive characters.
I remember seeing this at the cinema when I was 11 and knowing it was crap. I've recently revisited the first three in this series. The first one has aged badly, the second is clearly the best and the third squeezed the last bit of mirth from a series that isn't exactly full to brim of laughs.
By this installment they're not even trying. 'Citizens on Patrol' is a scheme where they train up members of the public so is therefore a repeat of the plot of Police Academy 3 which was itself a repeat of the plot of Police Academy 1.
There's fuck-all funny going on here. I've recorded Police Academy 6, so will dutifully and stupidly be watching that at some point.
This film was pretty funny, the characters make it work. And though the jokes were not the best, they were still good enough to make the movie flow nicely.
I should've known the addition of David Spade would spell the death of this once great franchise
movies I watched continuously or have memorable nostalgia for
...boy I really liked comedies huh
