Bittersweet (at least to me) doc about Jim Wynorski's recent-ish descent into genuinely crappy movies. 80s/90s Wynorski was one of the B greats, but since 2000 his passion has clearly waned. Follow him into a lackadaisical three day shoot for a crappy supernatural sex flick about witches and boobs, starring Stormy fucking Daniels.

Love that Wynorski!

A look into the work of Jim Wynorski, a director/writer who got his start through the Corman school of filmmaking but would continue to turn out B-movies throughout his career. A breif history on Wynorski opens the documentary, but soon we are delved into the world of a filmmaker attempting to break new ground as he attempts to film his lastest movie, The Witches of Breastwick, in 3 days!
An entertaining and humourous look into the world of low-budget C-grade B-movie making and how even the world of the low-budgets have changed with the advent of digital filmmaking.

Probably the best documentary about low budget filmmaking you never heard of.
Funny and sad at the same time. -
Surprisingly insightful documentary about Jim Wynorski shooting an ultra low budget skin flick ("The Witches of Breastwick") in three days. There are plenty of awkward moments to be found, but it caught me off guard by actually having a lot to say about the state of the B-movie industry right now. It's also a bit sad at points, considering that Wynorski's career never really took off the way it could have, and now he's churning these movies out despite clearly being a talented director.

The Hearts of Darkness of skin flicks. Amusing, insightful and incredibly cringe-worthy as a statement on the death of the B-Movie.

Jim Wynorski is the master of the three day film shoot. Clay Westervelt knocked this doc out of the park. Pop those tops and check this one out. It's on Netflix instant.

The fact that there's a documentary out there at all about Jim Wynorski is great because the man definitely deserves one and while the ridiculous 3 day shoot of "The Witches of Breastwick" is certainly an interesting look at pressure-cooker low budget film making, I am not sure this short and not-really-in-depth video doc is what I ultimately want to see about the guy. It's ok but not as extensive or creative as it could be. The brief glimpses and stories from his 80s heyday are too fleeting. I also particularly disliked the scenes with his mother which I found expoitative and boardering on upsetting when, in one scene, she has difficulty placing the receiver back in its cradle on…

As tragic as LOST IN LA MANCHA, but on a B-movie scale, POPATOPOLIS follows cult filmmaker Jim Wynorski as he attempts to shoot his latest opus THE WITCHES OF BREASTWICK (get it?) in three days. Interviews with friends/family/co-workers and looks back at Wynorski's body of work are sprinkled throughout. Both cringe-inducing and fascinating at the same time.
Oh Jim... well, I still have to thank you for CHOPPING MALL.

I’ve been a big fan of Jim Wynorski since I first saw Chopping Mall many many years ago. This was a decent watch, but I felt like it could have been a whole lot more. It chooses to focus on Jim making a film in three days and while that is interesting and fun to watch, I’d have liked more of a documentary about the man and his legacy of films. This is touched on, but only as a fleeting side note. There is a lovely scene where the makers chat to Jim’s mother who is a sweet old lady. Hearing her describe how she liked Chopping Mall until the nudity was fantastic.

A no-holds-barred look at the "art" of low budget film making, this documentary follows prolific B-Movie director Jim Wynorski as he attempts to film a movie in just three days. The film can be taken as a "how to" guide of guerrilla film making and/or a cautionary tale of how a once above-average B-movie director compromised his principals to slowly become a soft core Z-movie creator. If you like documentaries that show how the movie industry really works outside of the mega-million productions, definitely give this a viewing. (Available to stream on Netflix.)
