You would think after making two great maritime movies in the shape of Das Boot and The Perfect Storm that Wolfgang Petersen would have mastered the art of sinking a ship. Well this certainly sunk that's for sure.
Rarely has a director as good as Petersen made such a stinker. Considering it should be a thrilling, tense affair of survival filled with some decent actors, this was pants. Josh Lucas is not a top notch leading man. He may be a bit of eye-candy for the ladies but has little charisma and his attempt to up-stage Kurt Russell,a man who has seen it and done it all was quite pathetic. Apart from an entertaining turn from a camp as Christmas Richard Dreyfuss… -
Some cool shots and graphics.
Kurt Russell.Those were the positives.

This is the second time over the last few years I've rewatched 'Poseidon' with the intention of seeing the scene where a dancefloor of blue bloods get sliced in half by a taut wire.
Note to self-that scene is in the film 'Ghost Ship'. Stop watching this film....although you do get to watch Fergie drown... -
Jesus Christ, I'm watching a lot of shit films lately. The scene of the ship being tipped over by a tidal wave is so cool that Roland Emmerich copied and pasted it on 2012. Other than that, the only thing this unnecessary remake has going for itself is the rewind-able joy of watching Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas die a horrible death.

This is a bad film that is still pretty fun. The effects are excellent, the acting is good, but the story and characters are pretty much non-existent. Though this has bad qualities, it still has scenes that are sure to make your heart race and adrenaline rush and honestly, that's all I was looking for.

Belanglos und klischeehaft. Lieber die Version mit Gene Hackmann anschauen!

The great oceanliner sails into the 21st century bigger and better than the cornball original film. Master director Wolfgang Petersen takes a good-looking cast of actors and actresses on a deadly sea voyage that will keep you on the edge of your seat. This one will have you saying "Wow, how did they do that!"

This was much better than I remembered when I saw it in the theater. It has great action and a very engaging cast. Russell is as solid as always and Rossum is also very good. There was a definite feeling of being trapped that heightened the tension.

Scary idea, not well executed.

Okay, so the film deals with one big wave that knocks the ship over and lots of water escape scenes to follow. I simply hate near drowning scenes personally, so I spent half this movie holding my breath. Those scenes are always just to real for me. So they did that right.
It has a great cast, but so much mellow drama is added to the story, it leaves some of the characters walking cliches. I loved Lucas, Rossum and Barrett here. Dillon plays such a douchebag, you just know he'll be one of the first to bite it.
It's not an awful movie, but ruined by awful scenes. Near the end someone is hit in the head with a big chunk of the ship, more than enough to kill them, and they just walk away like it was nothing. Stuff like that just keeps bringing this movie down.
